Marine Insurance

I'm with NRMA and have only had to do an in-water survey once, about 4 years ago. Never had a request about my mooring.

Mind you I also have all my insurance with the NRMA, so don't know if that is a factor in getting insurance for SEAKA.

I think I'll get my shipwright to have a look next time I come out, just in case. May save me a few quid!

Hi all

I have reviewed my policy with OAMPS (Allianz Club Marine) as they seem to increase the premium considerably each year (started at $420 four years ago and this year it was $555!). Compared to most other tophats owners who've quoted in this blog, my premium is higher and the insured value is less. I went back to them and they have reduced it to $502 (less than I paid last year),,, however I am currently seeking a quote from Nautilus (Mastermans).

Oamps (Allianz Club Marine)
Insured for $13,000
Premium $502
Last survey (oow) 2009
Mooring serviced annually

Has anyone ever had to make a claim with Trident or one of the other companies mentioned?

Cheers

I had GIO insurance and got a letter last month telling me they won't be insuring me anymore and won't insure any boat on a mooring. I am not on a mooring I am in a marina berth. I asked what they termed as a mooring and was told any vessel that is left secured by a line or lines. (which is any boat left in the water) I have made no claims and only had third party insurance. I challenged them on the grounds that I already hold the policy and therefore they are not re insuring me they are continuing the same policy of which no conditions have changed. They reviewed (or claimed to) the decision and rang me to let me know they can cancel terminate or not continue any time they like for any reason and if I'm not happy I could complain to the ombudsman. My policy cost me around $100 per annum an I only have it to get into marinas or incase I hit some expensive vessel or run aground and require environmental clean up.
Needless to say I'm pretty pissed off.

We have gone with NRMA, getting a multi policy discount and just need a shipwrights report which was a pain as we hadn't planned on pulling Oberon out of the water until mid next year

Ryan,

NRMA allowed my inspection to be inwater, but that was a few years ago! :D

I have just insured my TopHat Mk 111 on a swing mooring. GIO cancelled my policy, Club Marine would not insure me, and a couple of other companies would not insure as my boat was on a swing mooring. I used to have a swing mooring at Callala Bay in Jervis bay, which was very exposed so quite understandable as I have had two claims in three years. My yacht is now moored in Quakers Hat Bay Middle Harbour in Sydney on a NSW Maritime swing mooring perhaps one of the most protected spots in Sydney. I have insured my Yacht with YOUI ( I think that is how you spell it) not cheap $ 620 but swing moorings were no problem, however the location of the mooring was not taken into account, so I presume they will insure a boat on a swing mooring in any location, also I did not have to have a marine survey. I had one done two years ago, but the majority of companies want a survey less than a year old. If you take into account the cost of a survey $350-$1000 on a 25ft boat YOUI is an attractive option.
Club Marine might have insured my Yacht if it was valued over $25,000 a short fall of about $10,000 as the market price for a good TH is about $15,000 which is what I have insured my boat for.

I had my business insurance with GIO for 10 years with no claims, and now they will not renew it. Looks like they don't want any business with the remotest risk.
