I have just insured my TopHat Mk 111 on a swing mooring. GIO cancelled my policy, Club Marine would not insure me, and a couple of other companies would not insure as my boat was on a swing mooring. I used to have a swing mooring at Callala Bay in Jervis bay, which was very exposed so quite understandable as I have had two claims in three years. My yacht is now moored in Quakers Hat Bay Middle Harbour in Sydney on a NSW Maritime swing mooring perhaps one of the most protected spots in Sydney. I have insured my Yacht with YOUI ( I think that is how you spell it) not cheap $ 620 but swing moorings were no problem, however the location of the mooring was not taken into account, so I presume they will insure a boat on a swing mooring in any location, also I did not have to have a marine survey. I had one done two years ago, but the majority of companies want a survey less than a year old. If you take into account the cost of a survey $350-$1000 on a 25ft boat YOUI is an attractive option.
Club Marine might have insured my Yacht if it was valued over $25,000 a short fall of about $10,000 as the market price for a good TH is about $15,000 which is what I have insured my boat for.
