Mark,

Didn't get anything on Anchorage Marine BUT>>>>

Mr Rudd is going to change the law, in that, if your overseas insurance company does not have an office in Australia
and you are an Australian Citizen and insuring an Australian boat, you will not be allowed to do it.

There were a few angry yachties at the boat show when we heard that straight from a insurance broker!!

Back to the problem of out of water surveys, seems you will full out an online form and the insurance company will
determine from that what sort of survey they need.

Bests case you do it with photos.
Or a shipwright does it in water.
And worse case, a full out of water survey by one of their 'approved' surveyors.

I think most people should be looking at the amount they are insured for, as you can insure for $50,000
but they will only pay out on MARKET VALUE. Which means you have paid a lot in preminiums for nothing!

Average cost of all Top Hats is around $10,000 today, and thats what they will be using plus the age of your Top Hat when you make that claim!

Anyone know of any insurers other than trident that will cover the boat on a swing mooring without a professional mooring contractors receipt? Cheers

Hi Mark,
In the event of a claim, being unable to show a contractors receipt(as needed with anchorage marine), means you would effectively be uninsured if the claim involved anything to do with a swing mooring,
cheers ,
Shaun,
we don't have a mooring contractor on the Camden haven, if anyone is wondering, its DIY here

Unless the policy has changed sine I renewed my cover recently, when it comes to swing moorings, all Anchorage insists on is regular servicing by stipulating that as a condition of the policy - and they don't ask to see the receipt on renewal. Obviously they will do if a claim eventuates because a vessel breaks free of the mooring and goes ashore or is damaged or damages other boats on its way through the moorings. In that situation, that is the first question any insurance company will ask and if the mooring hasn't been serviced then your neglect will probably give them an out. If you service your apparatus yourself, make sure it is adequate for your mooring area and keep the receipts for any replacement chain or rope, your boat is not going to break free of the mooring an so it should never become an insurance issue.

When we bought our boat in April 2009, NRMA were competitive. Even though the previous owner insured with theexit hey wouldn't accept my policy until an on water survey was provided. Since we took out the policy, all we've done is renew it each year.

They may still have this requirement, but it is still a lot cheaper than an out of water survey. I also think they stipulate a mooring service annually, by a licences mooring contractor. For me, it's just factored in to the annual costs, so it gets done when the mooring license is renewed.

I am with Club Marine but they insist on an out if water survey every 5yrs. Mind you, I had a shipwright mate (not a marine surveyer) do the last one and they were happy to reinsure based on it. If you know a shipwright you just need them to look over the boat the next time you take your boat out for an anti foul.

Not sure what others are paying, but Club Marine charged me $500 for $20000 comprehensive for 2014.

I would worry about an insurance company that didn't insist on an out of water before survey before insuring because I suspect such a company might be quite hard to settle a claim with.
