Port Phillip get together 2012

Postby Tales » Fri Sep 21, 2012 12:29 pm

A few of us are thinking of having a get together again this year.

The suggestion has been made to go to Docklands on a Saturday for lunch.

Eat on boats or go ashore if the weather is inclement.

Tales and Bonnie Lass are planning to stay overnight.

The 27th of October is good for some of us how does it suit the rest?

Cheers,

Tom

oh bugger!

We will be in Japan on that date, Any chance of putting it off till November? It would be great to sail Wild Rose up to the big smoke for the first time and meet the rest of the Vic TH team.

I will be there.
October 27 is good for me, but anytime in November would also be fine.

Hi Dave,

November is really tight for me so I would prefer to leave it at October 27th.

Maybe you could post when you have a weekend spare (and suitable forecast!) and come up to Docklands or Portarlington or Queenscliff?

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks’ Dave, will do.

We have decided to grace Marina Y.E. with our presence this time. Dori knows her way around there and can advise us on matters culinary etc.

Please call Ronita on 96818394 or marinaye@bigpond.net.au to let her know you are coming wether it is for the afternoon (free) or overnight ($50). She would like to hear from you by 19th Oct if possible.

No problem if you have to cancel (don’t forget to call her) but she can reserve the best berths if she knows early. Might pay to mention you are with the Top Hat crowd.

I plan to get there by 11:30. It takes about an hour from Williamstown.

Anyone not familiar with the river who would prefer to travel in company please let me know.

Don’t forget to keep right and below 5kts in the river.

Cheers,
Tom

.
Friday 26/10/2012 saw Dori (Bonnie Lass) sail up from Brighton to Yarra's Edge Marina.

Alison and Tom (Tales) made the same journey on Saturday morning and Steve and Liz (Toodoiloo) followed shortly after from St Kilda.

Kevin (Wayward Lady) had some boat maintenance issues so drove over to join in.

Several boats were not able to make it because of family reasons but we hope to see them next time.

A good sailing breeze made it a quick trip and keeping clear of ships added just that little bit of extra excitement.

Marina YE is situated right in the city and Dori had already checked out some of the opportunities available with the discount vouchers issued by the marina staff.

We had lunch at a cafe nearby and Dori regaled us with her sailing adventures on the West coast of Scotland, Irish Sea and English Channel.

It was good to have a yarn and everyone agreed that the TH site is a wonderful thing and really appreciate those who make it possible.

After lunch we went back to the boats and admired Steve's shiny home-made vane steering gear so he set it up and described its working.

Late afternoon saw Steve and Liz heading home also Kevin but Dori, Alison went out for dinner and stayed the night.

Next morning we used our vouchers for free coffee with brunch.

We had a splashy but quick sail home in 18 knots with the sheets sprung, leaping and plunging along.

Quite a nice spot at YE and it turned out a real holiday.
