TOP HAT HULL

TOP HAT HULL

Postby bearmcnally » Thu Jul 05, 2012 6:35 pm

The Top Hat hull Is ONE PIECE ! REPEAT ONE PIECE ! The mould is in halves or 2 pieces .Once the yacht is molded in one piece no joints ! one piece .The mould is separated again , other wise you cannot get the yacht out of the mould because the hull has a little bit of bussel in it . Then the deck and cockpit ,one piece! ,that makes 2 pieces ? add one more for head liner and what ever for furniture !!

NO MORE TALK ABOUT THE TOP HAT HULL BEING MADE IN 2 PIECES AND STUCK TOGETHER .IT'S ONE DAM PIECE !!!!

Oh Bear I don't think so!

I can definitely see a joint in the stem and transom. They're definitely 3 part hull.
:P

Troppo. My wife does a lot of 1000 piece jigsaws, if you keep it below 1000 pieces she can help you put it back together. BTW she is on holidays for 3 weeks if need be.

Oh Mr Greg ? that line you see is the joint line where the halves of the mould are joined and poorly prepared by the builder ! I guess it is a Mk 3 !!!!!

Perhaps that join comes from using a chopper gun instead of hand laying the glass? I do not know where the two part hull thing came from either. The joint is between the deck and the hull and that is the one that can leak if glassed poorly.

Your just trying to trick us, bear.

thats not a top hat coming out of the mould !!! or do they stick the keel on after making it a three piece hull ???

Of course Bear is totally correct. The join line you might see is what is called "flash"in plastic moulding, where a little bit has leaked out between the molds. You could make a hull in two pieces, but then you would have a weaker structure unless you went to a lot of trouble to reinforce the join. Why would you bother?

The lead inside a moulded keel is excellent in an old boat. Bolt-on keels are a worry for an old boat, and fixing/replacing keel bolts could be more expensive than the boat is worth.

GGRRRRR

I wasn't going to admit it but I was the one who said two parts to the hull, at least for Mark 2 & 3's.

Here's the proof!!!!!!!!
