I own a Mk3 which I have had re rigged, back to a forestay from a furler. I am after 2nd hand hanked headsails in good condition if anyone has any they wish to sell. Phone 0428761392
This is almost as fun as the inboard/outboard debate. FC had a furler fitted when I bought her, but also came with very good set of hanked headsails. I found the furling setup up frustrating to live with and was happy to take it off once I blew out the furling headsail several years later. I am in love with my big genoa and would be reluctant to give it up now. I have seen twin furling headsails on some bigger yachts. Has anyone contemplated running twin forestays on a Toppie... one with a furler?
Would it not be the best of both worlds if the furler foil had a track which would allow an easy change of headsail? You would also need the type of reefer/furler with a halliard swivel. There would still be the need to go to the foredeck to do a sail change, but then the best size range of sail will be available, and even though not 100%, still better performance than a deeply reefed furled headsail.
