I guess that is plumbed to a methane digester to make gas to run a motor. It surely wouldn't be going straight out into the creek.

And it has to be a tropical innovation. Open for use in north Qld all year round but a bit cold for Vic Port Phillip Bay in winter.

Hi everyone

We are new to sailing and looking to buy our first boat. We like the look of the Top Hat. Right size, buyers market etc.
We are currently in Nth Queensland and working our way south looking at boats along the way.
Found this Top Hat for sale in Townsville. This website is fantastic as a first stop for
Top Hats.

Wildfire is mentioned in the for sale forums and does anyone know if it is the same boat.

Cheers
Kevin and Fiona

Hi Kevin and Fiona, welcome to the forum. Looking at the pics of Wildfire on the forum and the boatsonline Wildfire, I reckon they are the same boat, 100% confident.

I am biased, I like Top Hats. I think they have an amazing amount of usable space for the size of boat, 25 feet. All the best with ya boat hunting. Sometimes it can take a while before you find something your really like.

Any questions you have about Top Hats, please ask away. I am sure someone here will give good advice. I am happy to answer any question, the problem being I am happy to answer even if I don't know what I am talking about. : )

Thank you very much for the welcome. We have just started researching boats within our price range. We happened across and read a few blogs of how others have traveled far on the Top Hat. Always rating the boat very highly. We have a very limited budget and there looks to be value in the Top Hat.
We are just beginners and are hoping to avoid boats with a history like Wildfire.

Hi Kevin & Fiona, I'm in Rockhampton, if you are coming through and want to talk Top Hats (and if I am free) then you may like to look over Windchaser to get more insight into Top Hats. She is on a mooring in the town reach and I take visitors out in my dinghy after giving them coffee (stop 'em falling asleep with my boring talk) and a spray with C-Rid (like normal Rid to keep sandflies off but much stronger to keep away the crocs).

With Windchaser, I have been steadily working toward improving her as a pocket cruiser. My needs with a pocket cruiser are quite different to those who do a week end daytime sail. For example, I have two installed water tanks holding 120 litres which I am happy with. The standard Top Hat has 80 litres I think and some day sailing boats may only have 40 litres if that but day sailing doesn't need much. Easy enough to add extra water tanks but everything you add costs money. Sometimes a cheap boat once you have calculated what you need to spend to make it how you want ends up an expensive boat. Plenty of boats available so looking around is the way to go.

Good on ya for thinking about what you need and looking around.
