Sydney Tophats

Sydney Tophats

Postby Troppo » Wed Nov 13, 2013 8:01 pm

On a quick trip to Sydney I managed to take the ferry down Parramatta River and over to Manly. I was surprised how many Tophats I saw moored on the way down and back. Also, I saw what looked like a blue hulled Tophat under full sail out in the bay. Also saw Wild Oats xi looking splendid at speed.

So, how many Tophats are there in Sydney Harbour and attached waterways?

Don't know how many really, Phillip might know, but there would be over 50 in Sydney and Pittwater, as they were made in Mona Vale and Wyong.

There is a Mark 1 moored in Manly Cove just off tht big round white block of units on the point, and there used to be another in further near the kayak rental. I know of two in Tarban Ck, near the Gladesville bridge which you would have missed on the ferry. One owned by Dan, the original forum owner.

Shame I didn't know you were in the area, I was in Manly all yesterday afternoon!

Wow, I didn't know there were so many! That really is amazing.

If I had had more time I would have tried to organise meeting some folk from the forum and see their boats but I knew time was gunna be short so I didn't. Maybe next time.

I appreciate your offer Miker, I would have enjoyed having a natter with you, the harbour and all the boats is really something.
