Yamaha FT9.9

I have decided to stick with my 8hp 2 stroke Yamaha for the time being. What I am considering is modification's to the motor well i.e. recess the rear of the well to allow upper part of the motor to fit. What I have heard of is that if you remove the fins on the front of leg and move the mounting plate forward you can gain 45 to 50mm. Tomorrow I am going to a dealer that has a FT9.9 long shaft to measure this distance. So I haven't give up I just have accept that I will have to modify the engine well to achieve my goal so at the moment 8hp will do
