. Still looking at all the websites and evaluating boats.
A little slower now as it seems I have a torn tendon in my shoulder. Probably when I was in sydney on peppercorn, and pulling on a sheet and not using the winch. Utrasound confirmed why my shoulder hurTs. .I see the specialist in July.

First week after I found this out... Very sad... Plans awry. Now I'm hoping for just a delay of a few months.

Troop.. can you pm me?. mine seem to be sitting in my outbox

Hi Di, found ya PM and have replied.

With ya shoulder, now you know why you need a boat of ya own. No, not to get more injuries but to get fit so ya don't get injuries. : )

cheers

I agree. That is one of the main reasons for buying a boat - a more active lifestyle.
I went Crewing 18 months ago on a tri and had a very active 3 weeks and I lost 5 kg and was so much more agile and strong.

So 6 months and I reckon I'd lose 10 years:-) and be much fitter.

Funny, I find I move less on the boat than off, so getting fit is done between sails rather than during. Syd Fisher (85) stays 'sail fit' by doing some work in the Gym. I find surfing and jogging is enough but I am 25yrs younger than Syd. I think you will be fine on a Top Hat it is just a matter of being careful/sensible.

Look forward to seeing you on the water in your own yacht.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Everyone
Its been a while since I posted. I am still looking for a top hat, but the only 2 in QLD for sale are not suitable.

My shoulder is slowly healing, and I have about 75% range of motion back, and I am working on my physio exercises.

My 5 year plan is about to be shortened dramatically. 6 weeks ago I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer (non-smoker). Just after I finished my day skipper 5 day intensive I went crewing for 2 weeks. During this time a lump came up on the side of my neck, virtually overnight. When I came home I had it seen to and biopsied. It was a secondary cancer - lung cancer that had spread thru many lymphnodes and therefore was inoperable.

I am doing targeted chemo at the moment ( by daily tablet), and looking for a boat , as I'm not waiting around to finish the projects I had going. Essentially just waiting for my condition to stabilise, and I can access my super and I'm starting the cruising life. maybe around moreton bay till april next year , and then head north to the No i item on the bucket list - Lizard Island and No 2 the whitsundays. I hear Vitamin Sea is very healing.

You can visit the blog http://diannesbucketlist.wordpress.com if you are interested.

So for all those waiting ... life can change overnight! go sailing now!!!

Hi Dianne,
Life can deliver a knockdown at times, whether you're on or off the water. It's great that you're continuing with your plan... Plans change, the dream remains the same. Definitely go with the Vitamin Sea, and start exploring Moreton Bay as you can. Some of my best overnights have been tucked in near Peel Island.

Please keep in touch, I'm sure any Hatters will help as we can.

Cheers, RodM

Di,

What can I say but to admire your determination to get on with it.

Maybe we should all start looking this week for a Top Hat that's ready to go for Di.

Di, could you post a specification and $ range, of what you are looking for so we can start looking.

Come on guys let's get Di out there and sailing in her own Top Hat.
Phillip.

Hello Di

Crikeys! I have been off the forum for a bit and your health news is totally unexpected. Not good at all. I only hope that the strength and determination that I glimpsed in you from your short visit to Rockhampton will help you to weather this storm and achieve your goals.

All the best

Di,
This one looks like the one for you. http://yachthub.com/list/yachts-for-sal ... mk1/137415
It is expensive, but the critical items have been renewed, and could be ready to set off.

Let us know if you want someone to take a look. A good starting point is it is being advertised by one of our members. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1489
