Come on Phillip, you did that trip and would you have liked to have an outboard???? For that dough there should be a roller furling , nice diesel, an automatic coffee maker and well the list goes on. Haveagoodweekend Cheers Peter

I would agree with the inboard diesel, but not sure about the coffee maker..........

Now Peter H,

She is a nice boat and I think it will suit Di just right.
Remember Di said she is going to transport it down to Brisbane so she will be sailing within Morton Bay [is that right Di?]

But for me......Na!

I'll stick to my solid Mark 1 with an inboard diesel and the hanked on sails. Each to his own. :D

Oh..Had the coffee percolator but it got eliminated as useless weight.

Just another thing, I discovered yesterday from an original buyer, if your Mark 2 or 3 was originally fitted out for an inboard...

200lbs was removed from the ballast to compensate for the inboard weight!!!!! :o :o

So if you de-inboard, consider what your ballast is now and the difference it will make to your Top Hats performance.
Phillip.

Well, i emailed the offer to the agent this afternoon. I am up here til next Saturday so can go for test sail monday if a price can be agreed upon. I am currently on a 42 ft Roberts offshore lurking behind great keppel island, trying to hide from the five day run of 25 to 30 knot winds. Gusts up to 40.

I jumped ship today as the skippers wife had been snippy at me for last 2 days (note: I am here as paying crew at $70 per day), and today she started screaming at me. Very upsetting!

Both accomodation places here were incredibly helpful And suggested ways iI could get to the ferry to get back to mainland. One rang another yachty, and he rowed over and got me. I made the quick decision after talking to him on the phone. Possible risky behavior, but sometimes.......
The yacht is called tellurian, and we spent the afternoon looking at all the things he has has done on the boat, including the diesel engine refurb etc. Boat is in very good condition and neat as well.

....... and talking about the tides around mackay.Wow spring tides there have 7 metre range!!!!!!

Yes, I will be transporting COOL CHANGE back to Brisbane, if it happens.

so I can sail around Moreton bay for 18 months or so to gain experience, setup the boat and make sure it is in great condition.

then it will be venturing further abroad in small steps, maybe a few weeks at a time.... Say up to Fraser island and back

until i finally go for the bucket list destination of lizard island, via day hop coastal crising, with lots of time to wait for the right conditons. Just before that I would have purchased a new 4 stroke.motor and run it in.

I wouldn't have bought a th with an outboard on a transom, but I think the well will work.

Who know ... Maybe another trip to Sydney to look at MOONLIGHTING which seems pretty well kitted out.
If iI didn't have weekly teaching commitments for my mosaic group I could sail it back, but as it is... It is another transport issue.

Must go, phone battery getting low.

Well Di, welcome to the Central Qld region, some of us are friendly, unlike the skipper's wife! Hopefully the winds will drop next week so you can enjoy some decent weather. The gusts are strong enough to build up quite an interesting chop on the Fitzroy River, not a place you would expect to get swamped in a tender but wind against tide produces strange effects. I imagine it would be lumpy out on Keppel Bay and probably hard to find really calm water out behind the islands.

You seem to have a good attitude about buying a boat, not rushing to buy the first one that has some appeal but thinking about what you want and making sure you get something that will meet your needs. Good on ya!

With stoves, I used to love the old metho stove in my previous boat and for inside would choose metho over gas anytime.

So Di, you are certainly having an adventure up here. All the best for the rest of it.

Fantastic news Di; good on you for jumping ship...and getting a ride on another boat. Happens a lot I think, gives a chance to soak up knowledge from different people too, which is great.
I hope the offer is accepted...a very exciting time for you!!
Congrats - let us know the minute you hear anything! ;-)
Cheers,

So they dropped a little on the price, I put in a counter offer.
We are still along way apart.

As I think the leaks if from the windows which may have to be reseated , all 4 of them and immediate new rigging I will not be coming up much more.

I go back to brissie on sat.
