Sat 7th is good for me too.

As said previously, I'll be going from Careel Bay, which is a 15 minute sail from the Basin, so if anyone who's not sailing in want's a ride get in touch.

Count Curly Tops in since she only lives around the corner at Scotland Island....Diana (or anyone else for that matter) if you want a hand taking your boat north, I"m happy to oblige ;) 0410 35 77 55
Equally, if there's anyone needing a ride over to the Basin from Church Pt, I can also pick up from there very easily.

I vote for TOPHAT theme - it's a no-brainer! and good move to change to Nov as who'd want to share the basin with a bunch of seawinds anyway Ha Ha!

Thanks to all for making this happen....here's to many more like it in the future.....maybe we could arrange a short race while we're there (?) just a thought....and perhaps a dedicated radio channel for reporting in....

Look forward to meeting you all.

Thanks Sonia, I should be OK with the sail north.
However I won't be bringing my dinghy, so would appreciate someone to bring me and dad to the shore from the boat.

Weather and work permitting I will be sailing up on Friday and stay on a mooring overnight in The Basin and then sailing back on Sunday.

Again weather permitting.

Looking forward to meeting everyone and comparing notes.

Re a race. I am pretty lousy at racing but don't mind coming last. Someone has to.

Glad to hear the change of date sounds better for everyone :D

re a race, could be fun, maybe on sunday, as people are leaving? play it by ear, see how it pans out.
I'm also no good at racing so will give you some competition with coming last Diana!
At least it will present some good photo opportunitys :)

Really looking forward to meeting everyone, hope the weather permits, & all other things align so we can go.
Planning to leave on the 30th Oct, so allowing 7 or 8 days to get there, should be ok.

If only I can manage to get the day off work....hmmm.

So the moorings that are in the basin area, are they "club moorings" or can anyone just pick one up to overnite on ??.

Is there much room to anchor amongst all these moorings, Haven't been there before so just curious as to the protocols

Regards

Hi all,

I am not Basin Local, but sail over from Brisbane Waters from time to time.

From memory, there are at least half a dozen unused moorings in the Bay. I have never heard of anyone having problems with using one (naturally if the owner returned you would have to vacate). One of my friends has a holiday house at Coasters Retreat on the South side of the bay and he owns two moorings that he is not using at present. The the other 'free' moorings are probably similar, unused private moorings. If you cannot find a free mooring, there is room to anchor on the North side of the bay, towards to Currawong wharf/holiday cabins. Be aware however that the Palm Beach Ferry stops at the wharf so don't anchor too close in.

Cheers,
Mark

One way of knowing whether a mooring is un-used is to see how much algae is on it. If it's thick with algae, it's more than likely been sitting in the water for a bit and not on the foredeck of a boat.

There is usually plenty of anchoring room as Mark said, at Coaster's, but also at the northern end of the beach at the Basin. There are also quite a few vacant moorings at Careel Bay (opposite side of Pittwater) but they're owned by Careel Bay Marine and may want some money to overnight on them. There is also fuel at Careel Bay Marine if anyone needs it.

Again, the offer is there for anyone travelling by car to meet Gabi and I at Careel Bay for the short trip over to the Basin, as well as a bit of a sail if the mood is right.

Do we know who is actually expected on the day yet?

Weather permitting, Storm Petrel will be there but only for the day on Saturday (at this stage). Perhaps others who intend to come should also confirm so we can get a handle on numbers?
