Navionics

Navionics on Samsung Galaxy S2. I have just put Navionics AU/ NZ on my smartphone and it seems great. Any one had much experience with this. It looks great for planning trips, distances etc. The maps seem to be very detailed as you zoom in. Apparantly even with no coverage you can still access the maps. I was just wondering as you get offshore how well the GPS works and if it ever drops out?

Hey Stinno,

I have the same thing, but on iPad. Although I have paper charts the iPad is my only other form of navigation aid. From what I understand, if you have GPS signal, it will work. There is no requirement for 3G.

I've been about 10 nm off Cape Three Points, just north of Broken Bay and it worked perfectly. It's also very accurate, as when I was entering Lake Macquarie, each mark I passed was exactly where it said it was in the map.

See below this post for some other comments on various Navigation aids.

Not everybody is happy:

It looks like you need an Internet connection if you are in a new area.
