Hi All,

Still looking for other Top Hats to join us on the 9th of February for a social (no extras) race for Top Hats starting from Parsley Bay and running up to Pittwater and back.

For those coming, we need to log on to the HRYC before we start and log off after finishing. I guess they want to make sure we all get back safely. Details are as folows:

We now have a procedure of logging on prior to the start of all of our events and also to log off afterwards.
We would like boats to log on by calling Eikon on VHF 16 about 15 minutes prior to the start and provide the number of people aboard and also later within 30 minutes after their finish to log off even if they decide to retire early.
They may pass the start boat and hail if they prefer.
We keep a permanent record of this information.

Also all of our rounding marks are in position as shown on the HRYC course map at: http://users.tpg.com.au/hrycnsw/all_abo ... 202012.pdf

Hi All,

I am just posting to put this on top again. We are still looking for skippers to join us for the 'Top Hat only' race on Saturday afternoon. Is there anyone out there interested? It will be a fun day. All the information you need is on this thread.

Cheers,
Mark

What is happening afterwards?

Sausages on the barge?
Raft up in Refuge?

We hope to have a raft up for a chat, light drink and canopes at Refuge Bay before heading for home.

Cheers,

Night Cap is out of commission for 2 reasons, the sails are at home (being worked on) and the bottom is foul. I would be keen to crew if anyone needs a hand. PM me and I will send you my mobile number.
Regards, John

P.S. Have had crazy trouble getting eyelet kits and equal difficulty finding a replacement cam cleat for luff line. I might end up with 5 cleats (min order). I hope not, but if this happens and anyone needs a cam cleat, I will be happy to let them have it. Found Whitworths at Artarmon have brass piston hanks. I will need a few. Note the hanks are not shown in catalogue. They also have s/s eyelets/grommets, also not shown in catalogue.

Sorry Mark,
I have a car for sale, and a couple have asked to view it on Saturday around lunchtime. This means I'm going to miss the start of the race. If there is still time, I'll try to find you somewhere either on the course, or at Refuge.

Sorry to hear this Michael. I am rather embarrassed that HRYC club have gone to the trouble of staging a Top Hat race for us when we can only field one boat in the race(Diana, if she comes, will only be following the race). Anyway, we may see you at Refuge Bay.

Diana - if you are coming can use give Killick a ride? (see above)

For anyone interested in coming on Saturday the information is above and Cliff from the HRYC has sent me the final information below:

Hi Mark,

Have you planned any courses for Saturday? If so would you let me know so I can pass on if anyone needs to know before the start. (MARK: I TOLD CLIFF HE COULD CHOOSE THE COURSE ON THE DAY AND TELL US WHEN WE LOG IN ON ARRIVAL)

We usually start our races from Gunyah point.
On this occasion Eikon will be the start boat and the line will be formed between the yellow buoy, which is a little west of Gunyah Pt., and our stern.
We will be anchored.

All boats need to log on with the starter between 13:00 and 13:20. We need to record the number of people aboard. They also need to log off within 30 minutes of finishing or retiring.
Start time 13:30 or later if postponed for any reason such as no wind.

All boats participating need twilight insurance cover. Extras are not permitted.
Communications with the starter either VHF 16 then 77 or my phone 0425310930.

We will also conduct the finish for you.
Let me know if you want to do more than one race.

Regards Cliff

I am absolutely coming.

Am in drastic need of a sail.

My personal email is sealady@live.com.au
And the email comes to my phone if anyone wants a ride or to be picked up or a bed for the night on Saturday - I intend to stay in Refuge overnight.

Well the wash up was Storm Petrel and Sea Lady (non competitor) turned up and only one boat from the HRYC showed up. Two of the HRYC Top Hats claimed engine troubles and two skippers reported in sick. Nevertheless Cliff from the HRYC anchored his big yacht near the start to run the race. Diana arrived late and rafted up with Cliff to keep him company while Tokay and Storm Petrel had a match race in a lovely 15-20 knot NE breeze. We raced from Parsley Bay around Lion Island and back to Parsley Bay. Tokay sneaked ahead at the start and led us for most of the beat up towards the Lion Island. Tokay's crew were serous competitors with two of their crew sitting on the gunwhale for the beat in the rough conditions. My motely crew said 'are you joking' or someting more colourful when I suggested they do the same. Anyway, we eventually clawed them in during a tacking dual and by the time we rounded the front of the island we were a few hundred metres ahead. Tokay made some ground up on the wing on wing run back but we managed to hold them off to get the gun. Cliff hoped that we would get a better turn up next year. it was a great afternoon of sailing and though the trip back to Brisbane waters was a long one the crew and I had a great time. Diana headed to Refuge Bay after the race for a sleepover? Hope to see some of you guys there next year.
