TOP HAT WEB SITE

TOP HAT WEB SITE

Postby bearmcnally » Sat Jan 12, 2013 11:26 am

HATTERS .

Some of us Hatters meet at Wangi Wangi for a beer and dinner .The conversation turned to how big the site has got and the cost of running it ,and what to do ? In other words the site NEEDS HELP to survive !!!!
As you have noticed the site has slowed and crashed recently due to the overload. We need everybody to clean their unwanted mailbox messages as this is slowing the site also.

We need to get professional advice and somebody how knows how to set up the site and run it for minimal costs.
We need to know how many Hatters are prepared to pay for a membership or similar to keep this site alive ,if that is what is required to maintain this site.

Your ideas and feedback are required to fix this issue .So please don't sit back and do nothing or this site will disappear !

PS Please purchase a burgee to help run this site

Hi Bear,
I have deleted unnecessary messages from my personal files and have sent a PM to Phil re purchasing one Burgee. I would be willing to pay a nominal annual fee, similar to any other clubs, to keep the website running as being too far from most I rely on this website to keep up to date with happenings. $30 or so would be acceptable to me.

Thanks,

Hi Bear,

I have deleted my PMs also. As I said at LM I am happy to pay a subscription. It turns out that Kieth who sailed up with me has someone on the Central Coast who runs his web site and he said if you can't find anyone to run the Top Hat site he could pass the details on about the company that runs his site. He said a site that was not too complex would cost a little to set up but not much to maintain (less than we thought).

Regards,
Mark

PS Come on Hatters, what about supporting the social race at the Hawkebury River Yacaht Club on the 9th of February. See events below.

That's excellent! Shaun is currently on Pittwater somewhere, but is checking emails. I'll send him a note.

Thanks Bear for starting this thread while i have been away.
Thanks for the help offers.
Today I spoke with Brainless, who is keen to help the site, which is fantastic!

The main thing is to get us off this expensive hosting asap (as I had to upgrade plans last week to overcome some hosting issues), so the site can be kept as a free resource for everybody, we'll be getting onto it as soon as I get home.

In the interests of accuracy I would like to see a couple of corrections to the hisory of the Top Hat 25 as described on the site.
I know Phil has been collecting data and I have sent him some of what I have but would be happy to work with who ever is interested to put it all together.
Cheers,
Tom

Hi All,

Please keep your ideas here on this thread.

We agree Tom, but we have been unable to change the front page for a while. We intend to update that info when we start the new site.

I think it would be good to make some topics stickies. So that all the dimension, weights and measures are all in the one place. That would include sail plans etc as well, and anything that could be considered standard Top Hat information.

If possible sort out the search function, because at present its not that brilliant.

Perhaps also a sticky in the cruising section giving average distances from port to port as well as suggests websites for those places that we want to support.

Bring back the gallery!

Plus work out why the number of users on line shows in the 90s! That's got to be incorrect, considering how many registered users we have. It seems like there are some bots idling away, thereby increasing the supposed bandwidth the site is using.

I'm happy to kick the tin for some cash to help with costs too.

Three cents worth.... ;)
