That's the biggest load of drivel I think I have ever heard.

Who would go into a remote area without the appropriate information and charts. I think that's crap.

AUS177 doesn't cover the gorden river where he claims to have run aground. Maybe he should have bought the mud map in hindsight, and that is probably what he is trying to convey with the story.

:oops: I have seriously run aground 2x. Both times in sandy locations known to have tricky shallows. Both times I was in a channel, so I found out later, which was separated from the main channel by a long sandbar. My charts had no useful data and I was moving slowly watching the depth. And I grounded on the sandbar. No damage despite my heartrate going way up. From my experience, I reckon I could do just as well as the bloke in the story with running aground in Tassie. Maybe not as well as him with getting off as he seemed to know what he was doing. Me, however, I am still learning how to get off when stuck on sandbars. If I keep up my rate of groundings, I will become an expert at getting stuck.
