Di , I don't know if the Navy diver was wearing a sharkshield.

Just by luck the ABC's Quantum had an article on this afternoon that was showing some research that was being done on Port Jackson sharks that were actually attracted to the shark shield. Still, they wont hurt you. It still repels the big bities!

I heard that colours can make a difference.

For example - flies and mozzies are attracted to blue and repelled by yellow.

Sharks - I have been told are attracted to yellow.

Which is the colour of many life jackets and reflective and safety stuff, and pee!!!

So the advice of avoiding the yellow snow transfers to anything in the water. :geek:

Hi Gang,

Can't let this one go pass. :D

I've been diving for many years [late 50's] and during that time I've been hunted by a GW and have had their company on several accasions [some of which I'm not aware of, I'm sure] and one where all the GW did was swim around us and snap its jaws, it was a quick exit that day!

The most common shark of a size to apparently do harm around is the Grey Nurse Shark!

I have dived with and handled many many GNS over many years. In fact I devised and held the first PADI Shark Diver Instructors certificate. I also started the Grey Nurse Shark ID program and the protection of the GNS. Swimmers and Divers are safe from GNS as they are fish eaters.

Now Bull Sharks are a different kettle of fish.

They will go into fresh water [up and pass Wisemans Ferry, Brad] and they will eat us. :o

This is the SHARK I fear and I always consider the type of water before swimming/diving.
That is: fresh water at the head of a river; canal system; marinas; lake systems or anywhere that has discoloured water.

The chances of being biten are propotional to how many times you go in the water,

The more you go in the less the chance will be!

PS. I have been biten by a Port Jackson on the leg!

Hi Philip ,

As I stated before in previous post , I spent ten years Waterskiing and Driving for skiers around Wisemans Ferry ( 1987-97 ) . On one occasion I swam across from Del Rio to Koveda Ski Park in my late teens , a distance of over 1km with a mate from Hornsby Heights . Just to see if we could make it , we did , though if I knew about the Bull Sharks as you Point out Phil , I may have exercised some other way ( lol ) ....

All the best mate ,

Brad
