sipping a top hat in pittwater, who do you use?

Postby Jeremy » Tue Jul 31, 2012 9:37 am

Hello everyone,

I am tossing up whether to dive the new top hat, sail it to Sydney repair
over say 6 months then slip it at my local, or to slip it now in Pittwater, replace skin fittings and antifoul and have her ready for 12 months. Who do you use in Pittwater? Are the rates ok? I would be doing the work myself.

Thanks,

Jeremy

I use Careel Bay Marina, but like most others they won't let you work on your own boat due to OH&S regulations. I paid $1100 for slip and antifoul in Feb this year.

RPAYC have hard stand areas that you can rent that I believe are pretty reasonable, so that may be your best option, as they will let you work on your boat and you don't have to be a member as far as I know.

Hi Jeremy ,

I don't know what the rates are in Pittwater to slip your boat , though a guy informed me a few weeks ago that to slip at Koolewong ( Woy Woy area ) they charge $150 a day for a 25 footer . So if you want cruise up there , it may be worth your while. ....

Machan's marina at Booker Bay in Brisbane Waters is about $150 a day too and will let you work on your own boat. I believe they have weekend specials as well. They slipped, anti fouled and prop speeded my boat last year for about $1000. I have a friend who has used Fenwicks at Brooklyn - he had his boat on a hard stand for a couple of weeks last year and did a lot of work on the boat. He said it was not too expensive and it might be worth investigating.

Cheers,
Mark
