SHARK REPELANT ???

Hi Guy's ,

Just wondering if a sonar device that emits a certain frequency to ward off sharks , has been developed for Sailing yet ?? . Similar to what has been developed for Surfers , in that they wear an arm band , by memory . This would be particularly useful for families to enjoy swimming in bays , off the back of their Toppys ...

I have my own personal repellant. Problem would be the wet suit holding it in.

Back around 1991 I was knee deep in , at Manly Beach ( Sydney ) . When after the white wash had settled down , I was confronted by a newborn shark about 2 foot in length . Just swimming in front of me , my concern was for the mother shark , that I am sure knowing mothers well , wasn't to far away ( lol ) .....

Brad! Shark mothers don't actually care for their young, they're not maternal at all, so tha chances of Mum being around at Manly that day would be really slim.

As for a repellant. I always make sure I surf with a mate, and keep him between me and the potential shark

Apparently peeing in your wetsuit can attract sharks, but at this time of the year, keeping warm is more important than keeping sharks at bay

I have surfed several times a week for the past 45 years, and while I have seen a lot of sharks, I could count the number of large sharks I have seen on one hand. The chances of being bitten by a shark while swimming in NSW waters are minuscule. If you are worried, just make sure you swim in the middle of the day when the sharks are having their nanny nap.

As a former Waterskier , I know the value of peeing in your wetsuit during winter , to stop the inducing of hyperthermia , on a single digit temperature day ( sshh. !!! - just don't tell anyone lol ) . Wisemans Ferry was basically my weekend playground 1987-98 ....

From several years of SCUBA diving I have learnt that,
1) Peeing in your wetsuit ruins the stitching!
2) Always enter the water walking backwards, that doesn't make it easier to walk in fins, it makes the sharks think you are leaving!
3) The most dangerous thing in the water is not a shark, its a boat propellor!
4) Always dive with a mate. Your chance of getting taken by a shark is 50%.

Divers wear a device called a "Shark Shield" that sets up an electric current in the water. Its a long electric cable that streams from the waist past the feet. Sharks have very sensitive electrical sensors in their noses.

Greg was the NAVY diver that was tasted by the bull shark in Sydney Harbour wearing that cable device?

Actually that is the only attack that scared me.

People eat more sharks than sharks eat people.

Seems like the old Adage of " An Eye for an Eye " can be stated here , or should that be " A Thigh for a ?? What rhymes with thigh on a shark - lol
