Sydney Harbour Departure point

Sydney Harbour Departure point

Postby Rod » Fri Jun 29, 2012 8:40 am

I will be taking my newly acquired TH MK3 from Sydney down to Batemans Bay in a few weeks. Can anybody advise if there are any public moorings at Watsons Bay or anywhere where I can stay for a day to sort out boat then make a quick exit through the heads early in the morning?

I've stayed in Little Manly Cove, it's just around the corner from North Head. Balgowlah is also good, it's nice and sheltered from all but easterlies.

There are no public moorings, but any free mooring can be used, so long as you don't leave the boat in case the owner returns.

The various yacht clubs will allow you to stay overnight on a berth for a few dollars, so it may pay you to give them a call to see if it's worth it to you, for the ability to have a hot shower before bed, or before you leave.

Have a safe and happy trip! :D

G'Day Rod.
Waterways have a range of boating maps that they say are "Essential". They will show you all facilities including exclusion zones. You'd probably want map 9D and 12B. They're only $6 ea.

Confirming what Mike said, there doesn't appear to be any public moorings on the map. I have stayed at Balmoral, be careful to keep clear of the naval waters. Don't stay at Taylors Bay, you get the ferries going past every 45minutes and its a case of hold onto everything!

Best of luck, Greg.

There are public moorings in Athol Bay off the zoo.
And if you are leaving Sydney you may as well spend the night enjoying the worlds best view.

Also you get to hear some wonderful zoo animal noises.

Moorings there are usually free anytime other than weekends.
This time of year it is pretty calm and quiet. Except from the animals.

It does not add that much time to your trip in the morning and a great way to toast goodbye to Sydney Harbour.
