Has anyone ever heard of these?
Do they work?
Currently for sale on Ebay

THE BARTON `WINCHER`

A specially designed rubber moulding which fits over the top of standard winches, converting them into self-tailing

The simple operation works when the line is sheeted under load, which means the coils climb up the winch drum and then become gripped by the underside of the winchers rubber body.

Cleating is achieved by locking the sheet into the Wincher`s ribbed central groove.

Barton `Winchers` are eas to fit and available in four sizes to suit a wide range of popular winches.

Full fitting instructions are included

The winchers are supplied in pairs

G'day Diana,
I was looking at these the other week, and was looking at forums, some people swear by them, other hate them, but most of them say it is a good spot for a cleat anyway, but they still need assistants to be tailed. My old man was thinking about buying them, if he does ill let you know how they go.
Cheers,
Aaron

Thanks Aaron.
I would love to hear a personal opinion. Or even better actually see one in operation.

I have asked about them on Cruisers Forum.

Quite a few people have them.
Mixed responses.

General comments.

Not as good as a real self tailing winch, but much cheaper.

Better when they are new as they get weathered over the years they don't work as well.
