Greg,

Just to let you know I intend to stop in the Lake on the way back!
Maybe sail back together so you can find all the shallow bits for me!

Ladies & Gentlemen,

I would be Very interested in meeting and joining you all on the 2nd. I hope to have my own TH by then but will still lack the experience and knowledge to sail her that far, So if I were to attend it would have to be Crewing for someone else's boat.

Greg, the Basin has hundreds of moorings, most of them are privately owned, but rarely used. So long as you dont leave the boat for two long, you can use them.

On the last Basin gathering, we rated 5 boats without any issues, until the NE blew up in the middle of the night, when we separated.

Bluey at Careel Bay marina has temporary moorings for a fee, but I don't think it's too prohibitive. If your coming down earlier, go up to Refuge Bay, or down to McCarrs Creek for a look around. No sense in staying at the Basin for days n end.

Russell, if you can get to Careel Bay, we can take you over to the Basin on Dulcamara, although we dont have a berth for you to sleep aboard. Diana, or one of the solo blokes might though.....

Here's hoping the winter weather is going to hold out for us!

Thanks Mike,
We've been down there quite a few times. I actually think it is an underrated cruising ground. Its great. Its a bit hard to sail in the upper parts though. We've actually been right up to Windsor. 72nm up river. That is a really nice trip if you want to do it one week. We did need wheels at one stage though. John Lewis has done it also in Oberon II.
I've still got to get to Berowra Waters and Brisbane Waters yet.
I've always been worried about which moorings to pick up. I know the blue ones are off limits.
I like Refuge Bay but it gets crowded in summer.
I'll be staying with the boat. There is no need to leave it there, unless the weather turns really nasty. I have to be home by wednesday. Thanks for the info Mike.

Phillip, I can show you all the shallow bits. We've been aground 33 times so far, no problems. We're an ex Port Hacking boat. Just follow me!

I'm looking forward to this.

You're welcome Greg. You can use yellow or orange moorings in the Basin or anywhere for that matter, so long as you respect that the owners may turn you off if they turn up.

Berowra isnt that good for sailing, but once you get into Brisbane Water, its very nice. Watch the channel going in, it can be a little tricky, but no real difference to Swansea.

gday all,
Just discovered this thread. :) I am fairly sure I can make it & am looking forward to meeting some other hatters :D . Dont forget, Gonsalve's Boatshed has some moorings just across in Palm Beach & would be worth a call also. cheers.

Good to hear Joe (Calypso) I think we're neighbors, if you're just around in Clareville.

This one "could" be the largest gathering yet.... so far I'm counting at least 6 definites, plus a few most likely participants.

All we need now is for Huey to keep his promise of good winter weather.

Thanks Miker,

And all others here, but I apologise, will not get to meet you at the 2nd June gather as I will be completing my Competent Crew Course that Weekend.

I can't keep quiet about it, but pending the result of a PrePurchase Survey, I will be the newest owner of a Mk 2 Top Hat.  :D :D :D 8-) 8-)

Now my biggest headache is how and what to name her?

1. "Naughty Lady"
2. "Irish Wolf"
3. "Lady Caroline"

All Help and Ideas appreciated!!!!!!

Russell, congratulations!

What is the name of the boat you're intending to buy? It may be that you should get to know her a little before making the change.

I went through that, because my boat is called Dulcamara..... it's either a contraction of the latin for Sweet Love, or an ayeurvedic herb to treat herpes and anxiety..... we go with the former.

If you do decide to change the name, make sure you follow the instructions of how to remove the current name from the "Ledger of the deep" with Poseidon and Neptune, and make sure they get the new name registered as well. http://boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/rename.htm
