Rudder Modification

Hey I saw this on the hard at Yaringa, spoke to the owner and he said he did it so he could fit the motor properly. It had an inboard at some stage and the rudder was cut away, he got it with an outboard on a rear mount. Apparently some of the other top hats at Williamstown have done this to help with the tendency to broach with the spinnaker up is strong winds. He also said he met a couple in polynesia who were on a world cruise in a top hat with a baby (who has just sail around the world himself) Interesting bloke.

Names of boats, what mark, when etc.

Is that Top Hat a Mark 0? The deck is not like any other Mark.

Jamie Michell was the baby, (possibilitys) and yes I think it's a zero top hat strip planked timber twin spreaders on the mast, had a bloody heavy mast on it, twin backstays and only single lower stays

He must have met the Mitchell's a long time ago, they sailed around the world in the 70's and yes their son, Jamie, also circumnavigated in a Top Hat in the past decade(2002-2009). I have never met the Mitchell's but The Mk1 Jamie circumnavigated in (Possibilities) was moored in the same little bay as mine before he bought her and strengthened her for his journey.

The boat pictured looks like a Mk0. If rudder was added after she was built it is quite an impressive piece of timber work.
