Wanted, a No 16 Barlow Winch.

Postby Phillip » Fri Nov 04, 2011 7:16 pm

Evening All,

It seems I have to replace at least one of my winches which after 41 years service :D
on my Mark 1 has just given up, being worn out. [Like some of us oldies!]

The winch is a 'Barlow No 16' and I would prefer to replace it with this same type and size.

Has anybody out there got a serviceable 'Barlow 16' or parts I could use to resurrect mine with?
I need the main inner and outer barrels! I am willing to buy, beg or steal!

Ahh Bear,

I think that using them will be expensive, postage is $150 to start with, cheaper to buy a new one!

 Why not try pass the parcel ? if the parts aren't to expensive and transport is ,surely somebody who lives around St Mary's and can pick them up for you and pass them on to someone who is heading up north etc .I'm heading down to Mosman next weekend and could get them to Newcastle if you can get them to Mosman .

 In the mean time why not swap the winches over from port to starboard ? Then in due course you will have two winches the same ? buggered !!

How did you go Phillip? Did they have something?

If so, Bear's idea is great. I can get it from Warriewood, as it's close to me and hand it over to someone heading north.

I'd be happy to get it and post it up even..... PM me if you need any help.

Michael,

Thanks for the offer to pick up from Warriewood.
At this stage I am waiting for boatlocker to come back to me.
They have me on a 3 month back order, so here's hoping.

No hurry at this stage as Seaka is out of action until mid January.
I'm awaiting a new propellor shaft and a chance to go up on the local slip.
