Hello,

Does anyone one know if there is such a thing as battery operated LED nav lights, port, std & stern?.

Ive seen those emergency LED clamp or suction ones (they dont seem to make a stern light), but i was thinking something smaller that looks like a conventional nav light but battery operated
You can get small LED headlamps...

My thinking is battery operated is more reliable , & doesnt need wiring, which could become a big job.

Also is it a requirement to display a 360' white light overnight while on a courtesy mooring?

u shd b able 2 find an led stern light like the side lights u mention and they're a gud backup however the better option wld b 2 run some fixed nav lights from ur battery aswell. As 4 ur ques re mooring light; yes u shd display all round white at a visitor mooring - usually frm masthead.

Hi Shaun, not sure about the LED nav lights, but technically no need under the colregs (or otherwise at law) to display an anchor light when attached to a mooring but it would be safer to do so. (no charge for the legal advice!) Hope your project is going well. Saw a beautiful junk rigged boat -China Cloud when I was in Comox BC recently. Cheers Pete

Pete, hope your going well, ie the move to Canada & buying a yacht there etc...

I have installed some LED P & S nav lights & wow....there bloody blindingly bright!!
Just need to find a good LED stern light

While the mast is at home I will sort out all lights on mast. Any suggestions/thoughts, just let me know.

Also any suggestions for a windvane.

Once mast is back on I want to rewire the port and starboard lights and fit LEDs (and also fit LED to stern light).

I wired in LED nav lights on Storm Petrel and they are great. Bugger all power drain and much brighter than the old globe lights. I recently installed an LED stern light (from Bias). It was cheap and is also very bright.

As to mast lights - Just stick to a running light (for motoring) about half way up the mast and an anchor light at the top.

If you intend to do some serious offshore work at night I would consider a tri-colour on top of the mast - they are visible for miles even in a rough sea - and perhaps a couple of down lights on the spreaders.

Shame you will not be back in action for the Rhumb line race. Perhaps Denis could use a crew member??
