1GM10 bits needed-and advice for those with one

Postby Deepsouth42 » Fri Jul 08, 2011 7:40 pm

Greetings all

The anti-siphon box accumulates water at low revs. This is why when at idle there is an intermittent slurp of water from the exhaust. A knowledgeable mariner revs the engine prior to shutdown to clear this. The consequence of not doing this is to have seawater splash back into the exhaust port...need I go on?

Anyway I am now in need of a new head for my engine. The quote is about $900 for the unit plus the new exhaust valves gaskets etc. Not much change from $1200

Does the wisdom of the list extend to sources of alternatives?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Hi Tom

I spent that and more on my D6 BMW (BINTROUBLE) :o . re exhaust box that's why the hose from the outlet/ back of the box can be no longer than 3.0 m (I think ? ) so when you stop the engine the water in the exhaust tube runs back into the box . And the box needs to be at least 250 mm below the head of the motor to stop it running back into the head .

Cheers Bear

Thanks for the additional advice...now I learn another hard lesson- I was worried about the anti siphon being nearly touching the spinning shaft so lifted it a little...how to kill your engine in three easy omissions
1; leave the tank half full for a few months then run the water that has condensed and gathered at the bottom of the tank through the engine
2; fail to clear the anti siphon
3; move the anti siphon up....

Oh well thems the breaks
