Hello All

Having owned a Farr 75 for 5 years and been boatless for about 10years I am about to purchase a TopHat. After extensive looking they look a great boat and perfect for my needs.
I am looking at an 83 Mk11 with Buho (spelling) diesel inboard. The boat is probably best decribed as tidy. Rigging is 5 yrs old, motor 500 hrs, needs slipping and anti-foul. Quite a few extras.
As these boats seem to be rare (with inboard) can anyone give me some pointers and any prices they have seen similar sold for?

When I bought mine, i also looked at lots of diesels as this would have been my 1st choice.

I found ALL the ones i looked at either needed maintenance or apparently(according to the mechs. i had check them) were close to it due to their age/use.

I was also estimated $3000 to $5000 for a proper rebuild of a small diesel.

I went for a mark II with outboard (in well) because even if it died... i could (worst case) throw it away and buy a new one with warranty for around $2000

I still want a diesel but will wait till i can afford a newer yatch and/or a bill to completely overhaul it so it is essentially 'as new'.

Reason I am looking at inboard is the exctra space in seating area, found he outboard in well too a bit of space. Maybe I can be told differently by TH owners. How many people with outboard mounted can you comfortably seat.

What you say is absolutely correct... you do lose some space.

My experience though (i took mine out of the well for a while and put it on the transom) was that even with this extra space behind the tiller, my family/guests still lent back on the pushpit(?sp) and put their feet up on the seat..... so I put it back in the well for convenience and they do just the same.

Having said that ... I think a diesel in good or reconditioned condition is still a 'nicer' option, just one i couldnt get to at the time.

In sydney ... my observations are that 21k to 24k would get a late mk3 with a diesel..... with essentially NO work to be done. It would have to be absolutely sensational to get anywhere near 27k in my opinion.

Hi John. We have a Mk 1 ( "Evangelia" ) with a "Nanni" 10.5 hp diesel. Have just had it overhauled <injectors,water/gas mixer, water pump and engine mounts. Came to just under $1000.00 but she now runs sweet. Good luck with your mk II .

Have a look at trader boat they will give you a ball park figure. Around
Victoria 25K is what you would pay for a good straight boat with inboard
,where as around Sydney or up North you can pick the same boat up a few
thousand cheaper
