Hi All,
I had an interesting experience this weekend when on anchor in the Camden Haven River.
We had a 20knt NNE at right angles to the 3knt+ tidal flow.
The result of this that SEAKA was doing 360's around the anchor
First I removed the boom tent, no result. Then I closed up the cockpit awning, still no result.
Sitting there with SEAKA going all over the place I wondered if I should heave too!
BINGO, it worked, SEAKA settled down head to wind [the wind being the stronger at that point]
and never moved. Later that night she headed into the tidal flow when the wind dropped.
Tried the helm over the other side with the same results.
I think this was a combination of wind over tidal flow at 90 degrees.
As a post scrip, when I raised the anchor the next morning, I found that it was wraped up in chain from having done those 360's. So the second lesson from this was, if you do a 360 or almost so:-
You should assume that your anchor is fouled by your chain and you should re-anchor
Phillip.
