Social Sailing Sydney Harbour

Looks like I'm out. I have a 50th in Cronulla on the Saturday night and my youngest son is coming up from Bendigo on the Sunday. Best I might do is meet some of you on the way back up to Pittwater.

:(

Spring regatta in Pittwater anyone?

That is a shame Michael. What do others think about trying to get births at the CYC? The facilities would be nice for a Saturday night get together.

Hi all

Quarantine beach is a lovely spot, maybe around the corner in Store beach is a more sheltered. However, a bit of north or south in the wind will put your beam on to the ferry wake, (this was not a problem way back before there was restrictions on running a stern anchor to shore). Therefore I agree with Dan, for shelter from winter winds, a raft up and a good nights sleep it's hard to beat middle harbour.

The bridge opens about every two hours and as it is winter there should not be a line up. So if we can get a few other takers I would be happy to take Swift on her first trip through the Spit.

Cheers

Hi All,

Is anyone else interested in sailing down on the 3rd from Pittwater(weather permitting), apart from Shaun and I?

I still like the idea of the a night at the CYC (a shower would be good after a day at sea), but I will be happy hear about other options. Sailing under Spit Bridge and up into Middle Harbour, however, would make for a long trip back up to Pittwater on the Sunday and for this reason I am not too keen on that option.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark, I'm keen to go but still 50/50. I need to get Felicite in good shape first. The prop needs a clean and the hull needs a dust off, Brrrr. Should have done that last week but I bought two lasers.
The rough plan is to pick my son up from Brooklyn (Hawkesbury River Stn) and that would give us some time with him in the school holidays on the boat. I'd be leaving Swansea on Thursday 1st July probably if all goes well. A bit of time in Broken Bay would be good too.
Just a note too that on the Boating map there is a note that Stores and Quarantine beaches do not allow any part of your boat within 50m of the beach between June and February because of the Penguins.
I plan to return to Swansea on tuesday or thursday the 6th or 8th July depending on tides, weather and how I feel.
The CYC I think would be good for an overnighter. You don't need a shower after one day at sea Mark. That's why you go to sea.

Just a quick note for anyone worried about the Spit opening.

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/usingroads/sp ... index.html

Weekends it's roughly every hour to hour and a half starting at 0830.

The "duck pond" right near Roseville ramp is almost fully protected from any wind, but it's a 20 minute motor from the Spit. Any of the other bays nearby are pretty sheltered too, apart from the odd fishing boat.

The Spit isn't that far from the heads, so leaving on the first bridge opening should see you in Pittwater mid afternoon. Unless you get a northerly....

Hi All,

Yes Middle Harbour is OK, but I still like the sound of a night at the CYC. I guess the bridge bothers me because I don't like having to sail to a schedule or sailing at night in bays I am not familiar with. How many boats from Sydney are coming?

Cheers,
Mark

I like the idea of sailing down and spending the night at the cyc....... a few little luxury's never goes astray, nice meal, few beers, hot shower for a fresh start to the day for the sail back to Brooklyn. Will need to get myself an EPIRB and a few flares. Just have to confirm with my crew. What about you Denis, take Mija down to the big smoke.

I will give the CYC a ring tomorrow and see if they have any space next Saturday and if so what it would cost. Lets hope there is some wind next week, we have had some very calm days of late. (I would prefer to wait for a weekend with some breeze rather than motoring down).

Cheers,
Mark
