For insurance puposes I would prefer it not to be called a 'race' I am not good at racing anyway.
Merely a 'regatta' or group sail.

You're right Dianna,
Two boats going in the one direction constitute a "race" at any time. Sailing in company would be good!

The latter dates would work best for us too!

Hopefully the weather would have passed by then. Perhaps the "race" component could be for those traveling south/north in your own groups (call it what you will). Maybe we concentrate on it being more a social event.

Depending upon the wind and time of arrival to Sydney there are a number of bays where we could raft up in form

HI All,

Thought it was time to get this up to the top again.

Weather permitting, who is in for the 3rd and 4th of July? If interested, could you indicate if you will be joining the 'sail in company' from Pittwater or if you will be meeting us in Sydney?

Where would the best place for a few Tophats to spend the night be in Sydney? We probably need a few options here, based on possible wind directions.

At this stage, Storm Petrel is 'in' for the sail down from Pittwater. Do you think we could make a 10a.m. start from Barrenjoey lighthouse on the Saturday 3rd?

Cheers,
Mark

I reckon mooring at;

bantry bay or
taylors bay
or somewhere just inside middle harbour is the way to go

we wont join the sail in company but will be waiting for all :)

G'Day all,
Bantry Bay means you have to go through the Spit Br and Taylors Bay, we spent a very uncomfortable night with the ferry wash every 45 minutes until they stopped at midnight. The ferries pass one another about there.
I'd suggest Quarantine Beach or Balmoral depending on the wind, or Watsons Bay. We will need somewhere quiet as we'll be rafted up, I guess. Has anyone thought about the CYC? Sometimes they have a race on and there may be vacant yacht pens.
I'm a 50/50 for the trip. My son (15) might join me as it's school holidays. If that will cause problems with an adults only weekend let me know.

Gday,
At this stage for sat 3rd Jul, im 'in' for the sail in company to syd harbour, & 10am to meet nr Barrenjoey lighthouse is good for me.
Ive got no idea of good overnight anchorages on the harbour, so will go with the flow...keep the suggestions coming. Personally would prefer protected spot with good holding, as i wont have my heavy duty ground tackle onboard, or possibility of using a vacant mooring.
Greg, i dont see any problems at all with your son, or anyone else's kids joining in the fun.

cheers

Hi All,

Is anyone a member of the CYC or any other Sydney yacht clubs/marinas that might be able to have a few Tophats? I agree with Quarantine/Store Beach (NE winds) or Watson's bay(S winds) if we need to anchor.

Any other takers for a sail down from Pittwater on Saturday the 3rd July(weather and wind permitting)?

Cheers,
Mark

I am keen to join in; I play hockey most Saturday afternoons, but I will definitely meet up afterwards or on Sunday morning. I know I have a match at 15.30 on the 3rd July, so would probably be Sunday morning.
