Wanted to Purchase

Postby LandofNod » Tue Jun 18, 2019 8:39 pm

Howdy everyone,
New member here. Back on the market after a few years away from keel boats. last yacht i had was a compass 28 (charley Mudlark) a mate and i short handed her from Ryhll up to Cairns, across to PNG and Bogainville, back through solomon islands to home, sold her in Townsville. Great boat, solid and forgiving, great for a first yacht.
Now im home in Warrnambool, with two young boys and my passion for sailing has been reignited after i picked up a nice little Explorer 16 and have been pushing her about the bays and venturing off for little day voyages. she's a beautiful little boat, but more if a Big dinghy than a keel boat. Which I've only been comfortable with taking out my most adventures of friends (most of us old surfers) as I'm sailing in the open oceans. So now im keen for a bigger little boat. i started researching and Illingsworths & Primrose Top hat seem perfect. A blue water cruiser that can be easily handled, but not a heavy slugger. So for me a transition boat, to gain as much skill as i can in pushing her off shore solo or teaching my two boys how some basics or taking my mum out for a lovely sunday 'catching of the breeze'. Then once the boys are older and if they are keen, sell her and purchase something a little bigger. Anyways thats a bit of a back story and a rough plan.

So Im looking for a neat top hat that doesn't require any major works, as there aren't any ship yards around here where i could keep her on the hard for more than a couple of days. i see there are a few up north for sale but I'm not sure how hard it would be to truck them down as i wouldn't be able to afford the weeks to sail one back.
If anyone has any experience in land transporting i would love to here your advice.... even better one for sale within Victoria, South Australia or Tasmania that might fit the bill.

Thanks for you time, sorry this is probably a little to descriptive.
anyways.
bye for now
