in board service with tuition

in board service with tuition

Postby Dean » Mon May 04, 2009 9:34 pm

Hello

I'm looking at getting the inboard serviced but as I'm completely new to all this, would like to be talked through the service as a one to one tuition in the attempt to understand more about in board diesel engines and in future help maintain the easy bits myself.

Can any body recommend where I can get a service and pay for some tuition at the same time. I'm based in Pittwater which will narrow down the search.

Also, I was recently told that some people offer mobile servicing and come out to the boat. Does any body have any particular advice about this?

Cheers

Gday Dean,

A recently new member Mark "Azzura", who is around the pittwater area says he knows a mobile mechanic, i presume mobile mechanic's are used to owners looking over their shoulders & sapping their brains for info, you never know you might get lucky & find one who is interested in tutoring you,
the Coxswain course run by TAFE in the city covers marine engine maintenance & repairs very well, i learnt a lot from it, i started the course knowing absolutely nothing :? about diesels.

cheers

Dean,
Did you have any luck finding a mechanic that was willing to teach & show you the basic maintenance?

I'm in a similar situation now, as ive recently got a new Top Hat with an inboard, im now dragging out & reading through my :? diesel maintence books, but i find its much easier to have someone actually show you!

cheers

Hi Shaun

I ended up using Mark Masters over at Careel Bay in Pittwater.

The simple service developed into more work than initially anticipated and needed Mark to nurse it back to health again!

After talking to Mark about what I wanted, i.e. a service with me hovering over his shoulders, he was willing to accommodate me and just pay for his time that the slower service would take on top of the service, so that suited me fine.

All along the way he offered lots of advise and was willing to show me all the ins and outs of looking after in boards and keeping it as healthy as possible for someone who has no experience with diesel engines!

Hope that helps :D
