Wanted 5' 6" snub nose dinghy

Im looking to buy one of those 5' 6" snub nose fibreglass dinghy's made by Lamoores, thought i may be able to pick one up secondhand, before i consider a new one.

Hi Peter,
Havn't found a snub nose yet(am still looking, & in no real rush), will wait for one to come up on ebay or similar, when i phoned Lamoore's at Palm Beach, sydney, they said they dont keep them in stock, then went on to say how tippy & hard to row they are in anything but good conditions & when they sell them in Qld they have to put a maximum persons plate on it, & it rates at 0 persons!. They will make them to order however.
The 5' 6" snub will fit perfectly on the cabin, so im still keen on getting one.

I have just purchased a Montgomery 6-8 which are made in Australia by Alan Nebauer, who sailed his Top Hat MkIII Deus Regit II to Canada and back and he has sent me photos of the dingy sitting on the foredeck (which I can send to anyone interested in these tenders). Weight is about 35kg, and dimensions can be seen on his website. He came across them in Canada and it suited the top Hat well. i will see how it goes on my trip up to Mooloolaba in a little over 3 weeks. Cheers Peter

I still have my 5'6" Lamoor dinghy and it is light and an easy fit on the Tophat, but it does not plane well and can only be used one up if there is a lot of chop on the water. With a small plastic seat placed in front of the fixed seat it can be rowed with two aboard reasonably well but with minimal freeboard (see below- I am 90kg and am rowing, while my first mate 'Jacko' tells me he is 'only' 88kg)

I have a 8' Lamoor dingy that I chain up onshore and use to get to and from the boat. The 'little one' is just for cruising. I do enjoy swimming, but to its credit I have never swamped the 5'6" dinghy, though after a few 'after sailing drinks' we have come close. To upload photos you just push the 'upload attachments tab below the text box, use the browse to search your files and then open the file you want to upload. Click 'place in line' and hey presto the photo appears after the text.

G'Day Mark,
Re the swimming and swamping the dinghy, I have a 5'6" as well on the foredeck when cruising and I found that if I swamp it I can't get back into the dinghy in the water. I tried it and I've still got the scars to prove it!

Hi Greg,

Very interesting! I will try swamping my 5'6" dinghy in shallow water some time and see if I can get back in. I would have thought you could climb back in by pushing down and climbing over the transom. I will give it a go next time I use it (on a nice warm day) and will let you know I also come to grief trying.
