Galini

Postby Alyosius » Fri Feb 03, 2017 1:03 pm

Well I have made the hard decision that Galini is going to be for sale.

I've not wanted to make this decision as I have really enjoyed the things she has taught me in the short few years I have owned her. However after my son was born mid last year I have not been able to get time to go Sailing and Galini sits on her mooring without wind in her sails.

My wife and I have decided we are going to downsize to a trailer sailer, but Galini needs to be sold first. We think that the loss in capability we take by going to a TS reflects more the sort of Sailing we are likely to do in the short term (ie: we aren't going to very often do long coastal passages, more on a lake/river system over a weekend.)

There will be formal details and photos posted eventually, but if anyone knows someone who is looking for a yacht let me know.

Galini currently lives in Nelson Bay and the mooring would probably be available if wanted.

Well, I've finally put the add up: http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-for-s ... AT-MK-III/

If anyone knows of someone looking for a top hat, I would be appreciative if you passed this on.

What's happening with the sale of Galini? Would be interesting to have a chat about trailer sailers vs keelboats. PM me and I can give you a call.

Talk about mental telepathy. When I wrote the above I had not refreshed the screen from yesterday, so I did not see the previous post.
Might I suggest that you add to information the make, age, and power of the engine, and, if known, the age of the standing rigging.

I'll add the details to the post when I get a chance.

However since I'm here: It's a sole 10hp inboard diesel, original fit as far as I can tell. I'll have to check the receipt for the standing rigging (it's in the folder of yacht documents at home) but I think it is about 7 years old.

I'll send you a pm with my details shortly.

EDIT: Finally found the paperwork reference the standing rigging, and I was right, last replaced in mid 2010 making it about 7 years old.

Well after several months on the market and no significant interest (which I'm more than willing to accept is I am probably asking more than she is worth) and some discussions with she who must be obeyed, Galini looks like she will be staying in the family for the short term at least.

She is scheduled to go up onto the slip in a week for a fresh antifoul and a basic maintenance check on the engine (new oil, new fuel filters etc). Following that, once work calms down in about October, my father and I will bring her down to Sydney where she will live for the near future. This will mean she is close enough to actually use (work moved me down to Sydney at the beginning of the year).

I've now got a 'work list' for her that I plan to gradually work on over the next probably 24 months which includes painting the deck, replacing the windows, completely redoing the electrics and setting her up for single handed sailing.

So, after all that, not leaving the forum just yet and I look forward to sailing with some of you on Sydney harbour in the future.

That's exciting news Galini.

Azzura is having exactly same maintenance regime upcoming, so interested in sharing notes/ideas/pics on how do it.

Only difference is Azzura already setup mostly for single-handed, just need to install the tiller pilot, refresh the lines and add lazy jacks

Excellent news, Galina. I am thinking you will have plenty of fun sailing in the Sydney area.
