Top Hat 25, Mark 1, plus MOORING in Kogarah Bay

Postby Topi » Sun May 08, 2016 9:55 am

Mark 1 - Topi is now for sale :(

My adventures in sailing is coming to a close. I live too far from the sea to justify keeping a yacht any longer. We had a 5 year plan to sail, that blew out to over 10 years, that started withan E26, then an Adams 35, and last but not least the Top Hat 25. The Top Hat was my favorite boat to sail, it suited my approach to sailing.

I have listed it on Gumtree, if you search you will find it. If I paste a link it will soon be invalid as I will renew the add frequently. I am also passing on the Kogarah Bay mooring with the vessel, it is included in the price. I have contacted the RMS and currently the mooring can be passed on if the new owner applies for a mooring liscense.

It is all going for $3600, including the mooring apparatus (designed for a 35ft steel yacht).

I will make up a PDF doc with specifications and descriptions to email to anyone interested.

Here is some of the text of the add:

It has a sound hull, it's a dry boat (all deck fittings removed and resealed 18 mths ago), most of the rigging has been replaced within the last 2 years and it has only be sailed less than 6 times in that period around the bay.

There is a full set of safety gear for day sailing, a set of good sails, a long shaft outboard motor with all the necessary bits, plus too many sailing extras to list.

It has a simple array of deck gear and systems that keeps things easy for sailing. Perfect for day sailing & low maintenance.

The Top Hat can be sailed away, it's not a project, however there are things that should be done in time: The windows are very crazed, but I have a sheet of new lexan that will come with the sale. I can show you how to do the new windows, it's not difficult. The timber toe rail was removed prior to purchase but I was given a roll of rubber bumper strip to replace the toe rail with, an improvement over the timber, this roll is provided in the sale. I have not had the need for a tow rail in my bay sailing. It has no electrical system, we used LED and battery operated lights and accessories.

That's sad to hear Topi, do I detect that you may be back someday?

And an early thanks for all your posts, but I do hope you are not disappearing straight away?

If I buy a yacht again it will probably be a Top Hat, for many reasons they suit my needs much better than other designs. I love the long lasting utilitarian aspects of Top Hats. It sort of matches in with the vehicles I drive, 9 Subarus to date :) Go anywhere & you dont have to fuss with them too much as they were built to last.

We will be in Sydney next week, from the 23rd or 24th May, should anyone want to look over the Top Hat.

To the first person to look at it.

They got a bargain & we can get back to a life without boats and moorings to maintain. What started as a 5 year plan in sailing, blew out to well over a decade. It was fun but it is time to move on.

Thanks for all the support and we had fun :)

Hi Topi, sad to see you go but then nothing worse than having a boat with ongoing fees when you can't get to use it.

I agree with you that the person who bought your boat got a bargain. At least for you it was a quick sale.

All the best with your future endeavours.
