Postby koldspring13 » Tue Sep 23, 2014 9:49 am

Hi all.
i have just bought a Tophat 25 Mk3 off Ebay.
lets just firstly say, im a very novice sailor.....
i am looking for some parts to do the old lady up a bit.
i am after some of the following (and possible a lot i haven't thought of)
not sure if anyone have some good recommendation where to get the bits (cheap) or how to make them yourselves

Spinnaker
the mast is not fitted with a pole ring/bracket what size/type should i get?
metho burner to fit the galley
BBQ mount to fit the aft railing
cockpit cover< would you be able to make something up, and has anyone done it and have drawings/pictures of how they could look?
My yacht does not have an inboard engine anymore, and i would like to know if anyone has tried building a box/cover around the well where the outboard sits.

thanks for any help
Happy sailing
cheers Kasper

Welcome Kasper,

Firstly, where are you?

Your meths stove parts and the BBQ can be obtained at any Whitworths or Bias store.

And do you have the spinnaker pole, how about some photos.
Remember to re-size your photos to 1024 x 800 odd pixels.

What do you mean by a cockpit cover?
Phillip.

Hi Kevin thanks for your answer.
i bought a Green Tophat Mk3 off ebay about 3 months ago.
it was at that stage sitting in Mooney Mooney but now it is on a mooring Near Spit Bridge.

it didnt come with a spinnaker pole, but i had one from a Dafour 24 that i will be using. i would say its about 2.5meters long.
still need to get a ring mounted on the mast.
would anyone know what size that would have to be?
cheers Kasper

Hi Philip.
thanks for your mail. will be looking in Bias and Whitworth .
i am currently in Sydney near the spit bridge.

by cockpit cover, i meant some sort of shelter for the wind/weather to be used when moored.
will see if i can get dimensions for the spinnaker pole.
cheers Kasper

Kasper,

For your cockpit cover there are three alternatives.

1. Buy a small 3m? x 2m blue tarp from Bunnings and rig that between your boom and back stay.

2. Fit a Bimini, see Whitworths Catalouge. Look at photos of Seaka and others in Photo Gallery to see how.

3. Stay in the cabin but fit a clear plastic door so you can see how bad it is outside and why you should stay inside! ;)

Bias boating appears to have folded in these tough boating times. It is a bugger, because Bias was the only chandlery on the Central Coast so it looks like we have to make the trip to Sydney or start shopping online and paying postage.

Hi Phillip, yes Bias has folded.
I was talking to one of the workers at Belmont. About a year ago there was a takeover by the workers but that didn't work out as it seems the business strategy didn't work. There are about 90 staff involved and are now out of a job. I have heard that there is another company starting up that is like the BCF of boating and its starting at Bennetts Green half way between here and Newcastle. So stay tuned.

Well they were a mirror image of Whitworths.

Didn't even miss the Bias catalog this year.

The staff were the big losers.
