Chart Plotter Position

My chartplotter is mounted on a board that swings out on a long hinge but I like the look of the ram mount. It's quite small and tucks away. The board in my setup is large as it also housed a wind meter and depth sounder. The size makes it awkward getting up and down from the cabin. Also, when I got the boat none of the instruments worked so I got a GPS/depthsounder in one unit and stuck it on but it would be better to be more compact like the ram mount.

I think the Ram mount will outlast several plotters, so I fixed it to stay.

Philip in good conditions, how long does it take you to get down to Pittwater? I am considering heading up your way in January (depending on the appearance of a suitable weather window). If I take a couple of mates we would probably try to sail straight up without overnighting.

Gday Mark,
Going Sth from Camden Haven to Pittwater, I'd leave about 3hrs after a High tide at first light, then your easily in Pittwater the following evening, Ideally I'd look for a solid NE'r that persists throughout the night, so your not bobbing & drifting around on a glassy black ocean . From my very limited experience ive found the Northerly's tend to back slightly overnight, so if you stay on the cautious port tack(as I do) at night, you will be quite a distance offshore at daybreak, & you'll lose some time as you sail back inshore again. Having crew so you can remain fresh would allow a more direct course, staying closer to shore & saving some time. Look forward to seeing Storm Petrel up this way if it happens...although im still hoping to be going Sth to possibly Eden by then..who knows??

cheers
