8mm is perfectly fine Mark, but it's harder on the hands when hauling it up. That's why I went for 10 myself.

As for the length, I think I bought 25 metres, as my winches are just behind the traveller on the coach roof. The extra gives you the ability to end for end it later on if there are any wear points. That being said, mine has been there now for four years, and apart from some fading of the red to a lighter shade, there is no sign of wear.

Yes 10mm is easier on the hands, but you only raise the sails once a sail and they should go up easily. You should not have to apply much force until you reach the last few inches and this is a job for the winch. So, while I can understand oversizing the sheets, I don't think you have to worry about this for halyards unless you/ your crew have very soft hands.

Hi Genda,

I have just received a quote for a new aluminium mast girder from an engineering firm in Ulladulla of $500.00. I gave them the old girder from my Mk1. It is being made in the next 4 -6 weeks . If you or anyone needs to have one made maybe we can get a discount with numbers ,let me know andI can contact these people.
I didnt have any luck wtih Central coast company that used to make them.

Tony,

I would be interested to know what thickness aluminum they are using for the new mast girder.

Cheers,
