Hi Ian,
When I was a glider pilot I was totally immersed in it (as I am now in sailing) so 20 minutes would not do it for me at all.
Had my own glider and did 6 hour durations, over 10,000' gain of height and 300k flight but it is a very exclusive sport.
What I mean is that it excludes others, family etc which is where sailing excels.
Certainly solo sailing is a big part of my life but a boat is so much more versatile.
Racing a Top Hat I have found to be totally addictive and tends to make it easy to socialize (even for us introverts!)
Cruising, overnighting at anchor, tie up at a pier and get fish and chips, Top Hat get together!
If I have one message for Top Hatters it's this "Please use your boats more!"
Like gliding, the more you do it the better you get (if you want to keep learning that is) and the better you get, the more fun you get out of it.
I will get off my soap box now!
Good luck to you all,
Tom
