Rod,

Not a difficult trip if you pick a day with consistent breeze (not S or SW) and slight seas. Probably take 6 to 8 hours to Little Box Head and another 1-2 hours to Gosford (depending on wind and tide).

I would have liked to help but my daughter is getting married in a couple of weeks and I am also flat out at work at the moment. I have made the trip and know Broken Bay/Brisbane Waters well. I will send you a PM with my phone no. If you want have a chat about the bars over runs etc. I will also ask one of my mates who is retired if he would be interested in coming down with you.

Cheers,
Mark

Rod, I had only don't Sydney to Broken Bay once, and now have done the Lake Mac - Broken Bay trip return twice. both have been solo.

As Mark says, pick your day and leave the lake as early as you can. Book the bridge with Lake Mac Marine Rescue, and call them on the phone to see what the bar conditions are like. Motor through the bridge, no sails up or he won't let you through. Motor t to the coal seam, then put on your auto helm and get the main up before crossing the coal seam and heading out to Moon Island. if you have a handed headsail, get that up as well.

Make sur eyou follow the lead lines exactly, and you'll be out to see in no time. Go around Moon Island, set your course and enjoy the scenery. Any from West around to North East will get you there in reasonable time. If it goes south, it will slow you down, but you'll still get there.

PM me if you want to chat further, or PM Dolphin or Bear who are locals there and know the lake very well. I may be able to sail down with you, depending on the day you choose.
