What I did or planned for my Top Hat today!

Re-ran the mast wiring and installed the steaming/deck light.
Bogged up all the old fixing holes.

Welding up mast head fitting Tuesday, rigger will do his thing Thursday.

Cost of re-rig about $1k. Friend doing his H29, we are sharing the crane, will pay about $2k, that's the diffrence for three extra feet!

Hello Hatters ,I refitted my 10 hp Yanmar today after it syphoned water back through the water pump and into the waterlock and then into the motor while sailing !

Gee Brainless , do you have bad eye sight ? My sail bags are 2 different colours . main grey , head sails yellow and grey !

Haha apparently they think I do, new sails wont be in them for long so might be handy when the old sails are in them and I forget what sails are what in a few years

Spent some more money on SS 316 bolts, gulp!

Rigger in Wednesday and Thursday, mast due back in on Saturday.

Planning on repairing / replacing the cockpit shower.
Somehow the trigger on the hand/ lever/ shower rose thingy got broken.

Will utilise existing hose to make it longer so with luck can rinse off the foredeck and anchor.

Will also expand potential shower positions

Hey Di. what sort of shower positions are you talking about ... ? Wouldn't a longer hose work better and be less embarrassing !

Well Chris Messenger [the rigger, some may know him from Sydney] said this morning "The weather looks dicey tomorrow so let’s do it!'

By noon, when Chris left, we had all the rigging cut and swagged.
I then continued to shoehorn the fittings together until 1500 hours when it became too hot, 35!

Tomorrow, wet or dry, I will complete the rigging assembly and hopefully that will include all the nav lights.

On Friday I pick up the halyards and will pull them through that afternoon.

I have learnt a lot about rigging on yachts from Chris and in fact SEAKA is the last yacht he will re-rig as he has now retired in Port Macquarie.

So looking good, truck/crane is booked for Saturday morning first thing so should have it all back in by midday.

hi Phil
It seems a lot of the old sail makers and riggers are reaching that stage , and with them goes some of the skills .My sailmaker is one of the few who still lofts his sails on the floor with string lines and chalk ...

Hi Bear,

Yes that's what happens with progress.
My local sailmaker designs the sails on a computer, emails to SE Asia where they are cut out with a laser and then he hires a floor in Sydney to sew up the sail. Cheaper, more actuate and quicker!!

Mind you he does have a small floor to make dinghy sails and do repairs.
