Last time I used a bag it flopped around a wore the antifouling off the hull and then that became really foul! :o

So... tight bags to all those bagging their props! :P

If someone wanted to be industrious, you could make a round bag with a drawcord. The outside diameter 1" larger diameter than the prop.

A step beyond that would be a hard plastic shell in two halves that clip over the prop and shaft.

The final step, a remote controlled octopus to put it on or take it off for you :)

Our bag went on tight only because I would pull it forward over the prop shaft skeg and also tie it to the shaft forward of that so I has even less to clean. But, that only applied to the previous vessels design, you need to adapt each time.

If you put a T Shirt , socks and a plastic bag on the boat, does that mean that you "dressed ship"?

Better add some underware to the bronze body.

At least it will look good if you go prop walking :)

This thread is getting worse.

I am in Parsley Bay for the last 12 months and a bit.

No growth at all other than slime on my hull.

Sorry can't remember the name of the antifoul.
Can say that the hull was great but the leg of the outboard grew visitors.
When Fenwicks saw that they changed the antifoul for the outboard.

My outboard lives in the water.

So Sea Lady has 3 different coatings below the water.
1 for the hull
1 for the leg of the outboard
1 for the prop - called prop speed - I think. Works a charm.

I have said this before and will say again....

Prop Speed - we had been wondering how effective that was. Do you use the prop a lot or are you hard core - sail on and sail off the mooring.

Propspeed must be applied by a firm that is doing it all the time.

Reason, it goes off in the tin very quickly onced opened.

My prop cost $90 last time but I did the cleaning and prep.

I still have to dive and clean it about every month.
If I used the prop regularly, ie each week, I might not have to do that.
That said, our engines do not really rev high enough for that to be effective.

G'day Hatters,

My father has a Supersonic with a leg off the motor ( Like the bottom of a outboard, wouldn't work on top hat)
Just some food for thought. We were talking the other night about keeping the Prop clean and we came up with a idea of a bucket with a pool noodle cable tied on top that we would put a clorine tablet in. You would be able to get this on with a boat hook. And the bouyancy of the noodle would keep it on the hull and because the leg is quite long it wouldn't come off.
For hull growth you can't go wrong with Norglass topflight hard. We got 3 years out of it.
In Lane Cove River we get slim and if its really really really bad we get volcano shells and a flat black weed.

cheers,

Dawn Breaker

P.s- Please don't put plastic in the water, its only going to break and damage marine life and the enviroment.
