What I did or planned for my Top Hat today!

Phillip,

Storm Petrel has the original donk, a Yanmar 2qm15, which were only produced from 1977-80. Perhaps she is a Mk3 if they stopped making Mk2s in 76? I will check the headroom again. I based my claim above on bumping my head on the other Top Hats I had been on, so it is a little subjective.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark,
I have always thought Stormie looked like a mkIII from the outside, but like a mkII on the inside, I usually look at the front hatch, mkII's have a raised hatch & mkIII's seem to have a recessed front hatch. On the inside I have seen most mkII's have like a supporting arch of ply between the main & for'ard cabins, mkIII's did away with that. But looking through the gallery maybe my theory is off as some mkII's seem to have a recessed hatch M'IJA for example. Who knows!?
cheers

Today I spent some time re-fibreglasssing the port aft gunwale where I have a stainless fitting that holds the port aft pulley for the spinnaker sheet. The fitting split the deck lip when we recently flew the assymetiric in too much breeze.

Phil, I measured the headroom at the main bulkhead and found it was 175cm(5ft9"). This increases to about 6' 2" - 6' 3 at the washboards. Not sure how this compares to other Top Hats.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark,
Well your headroom measurement is the first in, we will just have to see how many others post theirs to see if there is a constant dimension for the Mk 2's & 3's.

Today I removed the last of the old paint inside SEAKA. Only have to do a hand sand now to remove any flaky bits left behind in the intial sand.
Then I have to do a hand sand of all varnished surfaces. Hope to have all this dirty work done tomorrow.
I have not done any lockers that are not open to the cabin, as mainly the paint in them is ok and only a little touch up will be required.
Today I also brought the required timber to raise the port sea berth by 100mm. This will more than double the food storage under this berth.
Planning is underway to install wiring for nav lights on the pullpit and to fix a couple of leaking stantion bolts at the same time [requires an extra hand onboard to do].
At home I have been re-varnishing and painting fittings removed from the cabin and elsewhere.

I will be using the Norglass Gloss 2 part polyurethane system in the cabin, the idea is to get a smooth finish to combat the dreaded mould.
So tomorrow I hope to get the last of the sanding done and cleaned up.
Wednesday the rigger will inspect SEAKA's rigging and give advice on bringing all halyards back to the cockpit.

Just an observation.
SEAKA is empty at the moment with very little water in her tank, an almost full fuel tank [30lts], 30m of chain onboard, 3 batteries and not much else!
She is way up on her water line by about 15cm and I find her action very rolly, in fact she is very quick to roll when I move from side to side.

I feel that if she was raced in this condition, she would be very fast and responsive. :o

That is all :D

Gee Thanks Shaun,

Got the sanding all finished and now ready for first undercoat next week [after masking up woodwork].
Started work on lifting the port sea birth today as well.
Brought [$4.80] some white [grey] conduit to run exposed wires on the pushpit [tidy up existing plus extras-AIS etc]
Tomorrow the rigger will inspect Seaka in prep for work on the mast.

Next real job to do is sort out final jobs requiring 240 power and get them done so I can remove the generator.

I measured the height of Pelagian at bulkhead yesterday,175 - 176cm. I think it must be a Mk 2.5.01

Rod1 and I also ran Pelagian's diesel for a while, still no sign of water in sump oil, so that's great. We measured his boat Sea Monkey for a new mail sail, and had a good few hours messing around on boats:)

On board Seaka again today to drill a couple of holes in the pulpit and through bulkheads as required to run some navigation lights on the bow.

Cleaned up the rest of the cabins in prep for paint, then discovered I'd not sanded the cabin doors. DAMM

So will have to try and do that tomorrow [weather permitting] with the final vacuum of the interior and then I can remove the generator.

Have to do a bit of fiberglassing next week, then it's onto the painting.

Construction related to raising the sea berth is underway and all loose paintable items are in the progress of being repainted.

Not much left in Seaka's water tanks now and with all gear off she is floating 15cm above her normal water line and is very tender.

After 26 months from the last antifoul, I can't think of a single thing to do on the old girl.
