That's a mighty effort Rob [and Luke],

I had that rolly night at South West Rocks as well but went into the marina at Coffs.

You could have gone to the fuel wharf, you know?

Time to get into the fishing now that you are in the Clarence River.

YAMBA to GRAFTON

the Clarence river is huge, and on the way to Grafton there a a few towns that are very nice to stop at with floating pontoons to tie up to for the night. Although these pontoons have a 24hr limit some of the locals here are tied up to some of them using the free power to refit their boats and not only staying there for weeks but also going home at night leaving their boats unattended. forcing some vistors to anchor. I can see the power being cut off very soon thanks to these types.
Phew, now I've got that off my chest..... I'm tied up tonight at Harwood awaiting the bridge on the pacific highway to open in the morning, then we'll go back to Illuka to anchor for a couple of days while we make ready for the next offshore leg.

ILLUKA /YAMBA to SURFERS

had a great run up here west to sou westerlys up to 20kts.
great picture of Yamba bar on TopHat Facebook page, pretty awesome sight close up.
Ballina looked a mess as we we t past with a 1.5 to 2m easterly swell running.
Entry across the spit bar was interesting with surfers paddling across to south straddie in the dark of early morning. Currently anchored in bums bay and will probably be here for three days.

I'll be up there tomorrow or the next day plan to anchor near browns bay for the night. I doesn't look like very good sailing ground around your way.

Hi rob
I have sent u contact details via pm.

Yes canaipa passage is not a great sail, strong currents over 4 knot currents and flukey winds. I motor sailed sometimes on my caper cat. One has to motor a bit further north to where the bay widens out.

But a good place for a yachtie to live. Where I plan to put the mooring, if iI buy a boat, is the area designated as the cyclone hiding place for Moreton bay . A good place for a newbie to start.
