I would absolutely be in (if date was right).

Given that I am in Botany Bay - Sydney Harbour would be ideal for me - and if Garry from Gallini was in, we could sail up in convoy (he's moored next to me, though haven't met him yet!) Could also sail to Broken Bay, but twice the distance (albeit a very nice sail!).

I think it's a shame that we never meet on the water, and a fun occasional cruising group is the logical next step from this excellent website. I of course would also hound you all for advice on my (first) boat and various options to upgrade it.

Hello all,

A great idea. Broken Bay would certainly suit me as I moor at Parsley Bay along with about ten other Top Hats. A number of years ago I was a member of a small yacht cruising club and we had occasional informal weekend gatherings around Broken Bay or Pittwater and it was good fun. The area is great because there are so many good sheltered anchorages from which to choose.

Be happy with either Pittwater, Sydney or Lake Mac.....

Twins and a boat! Wow.
I would love to get to know other Top hatters in Sydney Harbour and especially Middle Harbour (where I am). Port Macquarie is a bit too far to venture by myself but I would happily go with some one else.

G'Day all,
Having just done the Lake Mac trip for the second time I think regarding the level of experience and time constraints of owners that Broken Bay would be the best. For my money it is underrated as a cruising ground and provides great possibilities. It is also open in all weathers and has good services.
The biggest problem with this will be when. If it is between school hols that may be ok but it may stop families taking part.
Excellent idea. Lets just make a date.

Fantastic, theres seems like plenty of interest!

The majority favours Broken Bay, including Hawkesbury, Pittwater areas. Sure is a beautiful cruising area there.

Setting a Date..
my thoughts are from mid/late Nov into early Dec sometime? only prob is, is this too close to xmas silly season, parties, work etc?.. & sailing back home (i have to be home by 10th Dec)
would Jan be better for everyone?, would be school holidays too.

Hey, let's have TWO meetings!

31st October/1st November 2009 and 16th-17th Jan 2010 second last week of school hols. People can pick which one suits best. I'm sure you'll get more than one Top Hat to each venue.

Would Hawkesbury River Yacht club be available?
For those that can't make it for the full time ie twins, work, Study etc. we could have a ferry service from Brooklyn for at least one night to catch up, say the saturday night. It's only 5 minutes (even by Top Hat) from Brooklyn. BBQ on a beautiful beach on the Sunday with wall to wall Top Hats swinging at anchor. Great idea Shaun!

31/1st Oct/Nov could possibly work for me - depending on weather (wife and I had planned to be on the boat with another couple that weekend anyway) - obviously dependent on weather and wife's interest!

16.17 January definately out as I am overseas with work.

I am also free at this stage for both weekends and would try to make it along. The Basin might be another possibility as there are plenty of spare moorings and we could orgaise something with the camping ground for a BBQ.
