There she blows.... Water down below.
I have had trouble with my plumbing... Decided to fill my water tank up with water on Saturday. Next I find the carpets in the cabin waterlogged. Lifted the carpet, and had a small fountain of freshwater coming through the wooden plate on the cabin floor.
It appears that the hole has been there for some time, and I was easily able to stem the flow by srewing a self tapper into the pin hole where the water was coming from.
Is the pin hole there for a purpose, e.g. breathing hole or overflow?
Also, does the water tank under the floor need cleaning or servicing on a mark 2 Top Hat?
Any assistance would be greatfully accepted.
Cheers,

G'day Tom,
I have a MK 2, my water tank has a breather pipe on the aft end of the tank inside the bilge.
I pumped some water directly out of my tank into a clear bottle a while ago and left it sit for half an hour, the crap that settled on the bottom helped me make the decison to only use it for washing up or cleaning. I take a couple of clean plastic bottles of water on board for drinking when going out for a sail.
Flushing out the tank wouldn't be too difficult, just time consuming
Cheers

hi tom ive got mk1 or 2 ?,i cut 2 6 inch inpection plates in the the floor and put in a 100 litre flexible water tank,
Tom,
I have a Mk3 and there is a clear plastic tube running from a hole similar to your description. This tube then runs up inside the cabin just next to the hatchway.
When I fill my tank from within the cockpit, this tube not only acts as a breather but you also know when the tank is full because you will see the water rising in the tube.
Cheers,
Bryce
G`day all,
I have a mark 2. The water tank is beneath the floor in the cabin.
A threaded fitting, about a quarter inch hole, is located in the floor just aft of the step through into the v berth, usually sealed with a stainless steel bolt and a rubber washer. I remove the bolt when I am filling the tank in order to allow the air to escape.
Not a good arrangement as I usually get some overflow onto the cabin floor.
The filling point is at the aft end of the cockpit.
The arrangement with the clear tube sounds good. Might be time for a modification based on this idea, thanks Bryce.
The flexible water tank sounds like a good option if the built in fibreglass tank breaks down.
After purchasing my boat I flushed the tank with a fire hose as follows.
Disconnect outlet hose on water tank. Have motor running so battery does not go flat during this exercise. Have bilge pump running. Fill tank with fire hose at a moderately high flow rate, you will need to balance this against your bilge pump flow rate so you do not flood your boat.
Object of exercise is to agitate the tank in order to flush out any sediment.
My water tastes fine.
Please note that the above is not a recommendation, simply a recount of what I did. May not be appropriate for all boats.
Good luck Tom,
