There's nothing wrong with tinned Corned Beef at all!!!
Im talking about the english version of tinned corn beef....well its actually Argentinian which is the best, so get some Argentinian Corned beef (if you have forgiven them for invading the Falklands) with some Deb instant mash & a tin of baked beans, with salt & cracked pepper & HP sauce.
For a gourmet version use real potatoes & add a fried egg. :D

Great advice Diana, what about dry Ice?, If you can get it....have you had any experience with that?

ps Have just finished reading Lin & Larrys book, "The care & feeding of the sailing crew", its a good read.
pps, I hear the Sea lions dont taste as nice as the seagulls, but are better for you.

Hi Shaun,

I would not reccomend dry ice as it is frozen Carbon Dioxide.
A cabin is an enclosed area and breathing too much CO2 makes people die.

Some great info there. Thanks, will implement some of those ideas. I agree with Shaun, nothing wrong with the old staple, good corned beef. Also rather fond of HP sauce. Last bottle of HP sauce we had was made in the Netherlands.

Hey Diana

After Shaun consumes that dish, the dry ice gases would be the least of his problems ! He'd want to tie himself in to his bunk so he doesn't blow out the companionway !

Here is one that was in Cruising helmsman...
1 pack of 2 min noodles
1 egg
1 onion

In a bowl or saucepan add the noodles to boiling water, set aside while you dice the onion & beat the egg, drain the noodles, add them & the diced onion & flavour packet to the egg, mix,...heat small amount of oil in frying pan, make small patties of the mixture & fry until golden brown....luvly, a bit like an onion Bhaji.

------------------------------------------------------------

Chickpea Curry-
tin of chickpeas
2 onions
fresh ginger
fresh garlic
cumin
ground coriander
fresh coriander
chilli or curry powder
fresh chilli
water
potato

In a saucepan heat onions in oil, add 1tsp cumin, 1 tsp coriander, some ginger,
3 crushed cloves garlic, & 1 chilli & half handful of fresh coriander, fry until fragrant about 3 mins.
add 3/4 cup of water & drained tin of chickpeas, & small diced potato, cover & cook for 10 mins.
serve with rice or hot chips :D , & cold beer.

When coastal sailing I often get a bit queasy, an old sailor put me onto "Creamed Rice" no name brand or the more expensive brand name one, has a ring-pull lid on tin, eat with a spoon, cold, straight from the can, it has been a life-saver.
Also Raisins, once the pack is opened I usually eat the whole packet in one go.

cheers

Mmmm.... I had a night on Dulcamara Tuesday whilst completing the repairs to the hatch. Dinner was a Continental Bacon Carbonara, with diced left over BBQ chicken that I didn'f finish at lunch.
Breakfast was tea with microwaved porridge with boiled water poured over it (or milk if you like)
Lunch yesterday was Canned Corned Beef on Sesame wheat biscuits! Lovely, a bit like a pate really. Washed down with a Wild Turkey & Cola.

I have been offered a date with a man who says he can cook a pavlova on board.

1st date we had lunch and he brought me chocolates.
2nd date He made me an offer too good to refuse. Turned up at my place with oxalic acid and scubbing brushes to clean my sails.
And suggested my new furler.

So he has set the bar very high for a 3rd date... hence the pavlova cooking on board offer.

He may be a keeper

Pavlova boy turned out to be married.
Or at least attached.

Only available for conversations or outings during the week during work hours when his work was quiet.
Never on weekends nor at night.

Ahh well
