cabin entry covers (wash boards?)

How do the wash boards on your boats seal at the top. Night Cap has a 12mm gap at the top. Does anyone use some kind of rubber strip?

I have a 3-4mm gap above the top washboard. It just adds to the ventilation. Rain never gets in because the top washboard sits inside the fibreglass cabin top and the boat always points into the wind on the mooring anyway.

Hi Killick i used to own Nightcap before Shaun, originally she had perspex which fell over while anchored and cracked right in half so all you guys with perspex have a think about that i couldn't believe it and until i had those boards made that you have now i had to use a cloth door made out of canvas think how you would be if that happened out at sea. those boards are made out of recycled hard wood hard to find and very strong so go with your wife sand them back and varnish they will look beautiful

What worries me more is the light frame around the companionway that holds the storm boards.

Bill (Bornfree) My perspex, or maybe they're polycarbonate boards are 12mm thick and have been inadvertantly sat on by my 110k friend and they bounced him off. I think they should be as strong as 12mm ply, but I guess we'll only find out when the time comes to test them in anger

I too worry more about the strength of the timber channel that the boards slip into, they don't seem like they'd take too much to punch inwards for a theif, or a big wave over the stern.

Hi Michael my wash board was thick also but when it fell into the cockpit it just cracked i was totally amazed i also had the wood slides made for night cap so they are stronger than standard

Hi Bill, yes the washboards on Night Cap are sturdy. how long did you own NC? and do you know how long she has had that name? John

As far as i know she has always been called nightcap she was for years moored at Gosford i owned her for about a year i cant remember exactly
