aftermarket filters

aftermarket filters

Postby Killick69 » Fri Sep 17, 2010 4:04 pm

DOes anyone know what filters (aftermaket, not Nanni) would be suitable (and where to get them) for Nanni 2.40HE. I assume the owners on here that have Nanni motors have the 2.40HE????
I am after oil filter and fuel filter(s).

Any tips on changing the oil and gearbox fluid and coolant will be much appreciated. Anyone had a go at setting the tappets?

Evening Killick,

The sad news is that after some years of searching I have not yet found any other (read cheaper) filters for the nanni 2.40. I even have a pre fuel filter (CAV) that I fitted with a generic element and I have had to go back to the CAV element ($11) to get a proper fit, but the price difference here is very small. :D

I have found that the Nanni agent in Sydney(02 9319 5222) is very good at responding to orders either by post or by pick up. Just close your eyes when they say how much and pay! At last purchase, that I can find an account for (2007), a fuel element was $40 and an oil element was $30. No real way round that!

As to changing engine oil I have used oil pumps (pp50 Whitworths) but they do not get the heavy stuff out of the bottom. I now cut a 3lt milk carton down and use the sump plug to ensure I get all the old oil out. I warm the engine first by running it.

Gearbox, well I check it, but the oil has not changed colour, thickness or gone down. So while I have enough of the recommended oil onboard and the gear to change the oil, I have not yet changed the gear box oil, but a oil pump would be needed, I think. :?: There may be a drain plug on the bottom, but haven't checked it out.

I had my tappets looked at by a diesel mechanic friend and we ended up replacing them and the stem guides. He said that with any prolonged work I would have had problems. So maybe you will have to remove the head and get them looked at.

Important that you get the right coolant and maintain it. The thing I have yet to do is clean out the raw water heat exchange unit. Would prefer to pump in a cleaning fluid than disassemble it.

All said and done its a great little engine.
