Boom Cover

Hi everyone.

Just wondering if anyone has a boom cover they don't want or would like to sell? Anything considered.

Bruce, I got a quote recently for a replacement for mine from Hood Sails in Brookvale. The standard cover was about $300 and a lazy bag system just under $400.... as soon as I have a couple of other more important purchases out of the way, the lazy bag is going on. I'd offer you my old boom cover, but it's not even worth using for a rag.

Thanks for your reply. The covers aren't cheap for a couple of metres of canvas! Will just keep taking the sail off for a while.

Bruce, if you're not too proud, just buy a Kmart plastic tarp and wrap it around a couple of times. I've even seen people cut them to shape and use them as a temporary cover until they can get a new one.

Cheaper than a canvas, but easier than taking the sail off each time. Especially if you have reefing lines etc.

If you had seen the boat when I first bought it a few months ago you would know I am not too proud! I have a long shopping list I am working through right now, so I'm trying to limit costs where I can. Thanks for the tarp tip, it's a good idea.

Hi Bruce,

If you have a sewing machine or know someone with one, it is easy to make your own. I did it properly using sunbrella fabric and then installing proper brass eyes and clips along the length. It does the job for me, but it really need not be that fancy. You could pick up a few meters of decent material from Spotlight and have a go.

I am planning to make a lazy bag next, but it could be a while with my current work load!

Thanks for the reply. I have taken up the tarp idea for now while I look at the options.I had been wondering if making one myself was feasible so thanks for the photo and suggestions.

Appreciate the link. I am very tempted, will just have to muster up the courage. In the meantime, if you all notice a Top Hat Mk 1 in the Pittwater area with a sky blue tarp pretending to be a boom cover, you have found my boat
